No, they are their to serve you not have a debate,and Brits would not stay open until all hrs so you can pop out to buy your rizlas!! Had it crossed your mind that nearly all foreign people in groups of their own nationality speak their own national language not just the owners of corner Shops,listen next time you are on a Bus or Train in London. and you would do the same if you were in another country talking with English Friends. Quite a poorly thought out question really.

hhhmmm right well first of all just to get things clear I'm not a Pakistani I am a British Muslim born and bred just like my parents. Anyway now that we have got that out of the way I dint speak my mother tongue (Punjabi) often because well as i said both my parents were born here so they speak fluent English and they don't really speak their mother tongue often either we are just more comfortable with English,my little brother is learning Punjabi at the moment because well he can only speak English fluently. So the only time I actually use my mouther tongue is when I'm speaking to my grandparents or something.
As for the disrespectful bit no not really its not i mean what if u went to somewhere like india pakistan or saudiarabia would u speak arabic hindi and urdu? or would u speak english?

Put the shoe on the other foot. If you went to Pakistan or India and were with a friend and talked in English because you knew it better than Hindi, Pujabi etc. would that be disrespectful?
It is disrespectful when they are talking about you and doing it in a language you don't speak.

When I go to Spain for my holidays I speak English in shops.
Do you think I am being disrespectful to the Spaniards?
Many immigrants can not speak English. It took my Spanish Granny years and years! Even after 40 years here she could not write in English. She was still totally loyal to the UK and the best Granny I could have ever had!

i dont think any foreigner will learn either Pakistani mother tongue or any of the 25 official languages of India, if they decide to live there?. i feel that foreigners will speak their mother -tongue in their lands. now do u think its disrespect foreigners show to Pakistanis or Indians?. atleast most of Pakistanis/Indians converse in English than britts speaking in Indian or Pakistani mother-tongue. and oh yeah, a Britt souldnt forget what happened before the year 1947.

if you walked into a shop in Ireland would you expect the people there to be speaking in English, after all it's part of the British Isles? no they would probably be speaking in Erse [i think it's called, sorry if i spelt it wrong] or in Wales would they be speaking in Welsh? would you expect them to speak in English just to appease your insecurities? and any way they almost certainly would be more literate than you, use your spell check and read over your preview before you submit, or seeing as your so racist....don't bother

Cant see a problem, after all you can go to a lot of places in Britain and not be able to understand the local dialect

When two Brits are in India or Pakistan do they talk to each other in Hindi or Urdu? I am sure they don't. In fact they even expect every Indian or Pakistani to talk to them in English.
Are they being disrespectful to the Indians or Pakistanis?
Why is that you Brits want Indians to respect you when they are in Britain any more than you respect them when you are in India?
Also I am sure when Indians write in English, their English is correct. Not like yours.

Well, I once had a similar experience in a pub in wales. The moment we walked in, the language changed from english to welsh. Unfortunately for them, my colleague spoke fluent welsh. He waited until the insults had continued for about 30 minutes then went to the bar to order drinks, which he did in fluent, colloquial welsh. Talk about red faces and apologies! (mind you, the barman obviously felt bad 'cos we got free drinks after that.
Wherever used, it's a clear sign of disdain and contempt.
These people live in Britain. They should speak the language of the country. There's no further need for them to speak in any other tongue.
When in rome......... They should speak, dress and behave as we do if they ever want to integrate. If they don't, then they shouldn't be here in the first place as they're merely a form of 5th column.
Bear in mind that I apply this to residents, NOT holiday makers. After all, if I decide to go to live in their country, I'd learn the language first. I probably wouldn't do so if I was just going for a week or two.

Now let's see. When you are in Spain with friends or relations, do you always speak Spanish in front of the locals? If not why not?
