Me and my friends have been wondering about this for a while. Ok, everyone knows that champagne has got grapes in it (its basically fizzy white wine) but what is pink champagne made out of? One of my friends said that its made out of red grapes, but then why is it called pink champagne? Sorry this is a silly question and Im not even sure that champagne has grapes in it. (I wouldnt, i hate any type of fizzy drinks) but, hey I have dumb friends. They've been talking about it for about 2 weeks now(and its starting to annoy me), so please please tell me what pink champagne is made of?

It is just like white champagne, but the white grapes have been left in contact with red grape skins for a while:

It's made from red grapes whose skins aren't left in contact with the grape-juice for anything like the time that they would be if the intention were to make red wine (although I have had a fizzy Shiraz in Australia and much to my surprise it was very good - it was expensivem however).

Champagne starts off being made in the same way as other wines, i.e. from fermented grape juice, and then at some point in the fermentation process some extra sugars are introduced into the bottle and it's corked down tight, because those extra sugars ferment into carbon dioxide - thereby increasing the pressure inside the bottle and giving rise to all those wonderful bubbles when you open it.

Champagne is made from grapes, to get pink champagne they use a Pinot Noir grape mix. Fruits of the forest are mixed with the grape ( Strawberry, Rasberry etc) to add to the colour and the flavour, some brands such as Brut also add a hint of Cherry. Hope this answers your question.

The tanins in red grapes which are used to make pink champagne gives the colour. The bubbles come from the fact that the wine is double fermented. This means it goes through the fermentation process twice.

Yes, your friend is right, it's made from grapes, just like wine.
The pink champagne is made with the skins of the blue grapes too, that's where the colour comes from. And it's pink, that's why they call it pink.

It's not common knowledge, but pink champagne actually gets its color from the tiny, tiny amount of vampire blood that is added to it before it is sealed into large oak casks. The casks are then marked with crucifixes---not to keep evil away, but to keep the evil trapped within the champagne until it can wreak its cruel devastation on us when we drink it.

This is also why champagne tickles your throat. What you feel is actually the tiny hint of a vampire's bite.

I don't know about you, but I've found that knowing this has made drinking champagne much more fun. (I mean, if you're not going to live on the edge, why bother, right?)

Cheers, Ander
