Chocolate is toxic to dogs. The amount of chocolate that must be consumed in order to cause illness or death varies according to the size (i.e., weight) of the dog and other factors. If your dog accidentally (or otherwise) consumes very small quantities (e.g., under 10g) of chocolate, especially milk chocolate, there should be no ill-effects. Generally speaking, the darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is to your dog.

Yes, my vet and all dog owners have told me not to feed a dog chocolate because it is poisonous to them. However....that is not to say I have not given my dogs a chocolate chip cookie from time to time, or a bite of some type of chocolate candy. I have just given to them in small doses. I don't know exactly how much it would take to kill a dog.

I did look it up out of my own curiosity on the web and found our answer. So I have given you a web address you can go to that will give you your answer about this issue.

A cookie could be OK but a chocolate bar is poisonous to them.
There is no need for a dog to have human food so get some dog biscuits and give the dog one when you are having a cookie.

the chocolate that humans eat is poisonous for dogs because there is a small amount of bromide in it which can kill the dog. if you need to give a chocolate treat now and again, then buy the ones from the pet shop for the dog.

chocolates have a certain additive in them that is poisonous to dogs.

There are however specialised chocolate dog pieces that you can buy that are non poisonous to dogs. They are made specially for dogs, so you may want to look into that.

Don't give your dog any chocolate or celery. These two foods can give dogs a severe allergic reation that could be fatal. Don't take any chances with the dog that you love!
