Air drying clay is superb for small children. They can experiment and mould.
Teaching points : Smoothing out cracks and lines to prevent model cracking when dry.

Adding a tiny bit of water to your finger to smooth out cracks; this is called slip.
With air dry clay they are able to paint it straight away with acrylic paints.

Using long 'sausages' to make coil pots.

Another idea : Decorating cubed shaped tissue boxes by using wrapping paper with repeating patterns. Have them all precut and children stick them all over the box well layered. Finally, paint over the entire box with pva glue which goes on white but dries clear to give a lovely varnished finish.
