It can certainly be fixed, dont consider buying a new one yet, get some repair quotes, make sure no one has messed with the sound settings, mute button etc.

with electronics today and pricing as it is is is an unfortunate fact that it is cheaper to replace than repair, even though it can be repaired. the question actually is how deep are your pockets and what if any sentimental value do you place on an esoteric and transiant non human item such as a tv ?

Yes it probably can be fixed but it might be cheaper to buy a replacement (considering the charges made by many repairers).

It may be possible that the speaker lead came loose from the speaker or board, but you have to open it to check. don't touch the fat wire or back of the pic tube if you do, they can store a bad shock.
