Golden retrievers won't hurt your dog, they will probably be curious and smell it and you may be scared of that, but essentially they won't hurt it.
With parents, i'm not really sure what you can do, but basically you have to show them that you're responsible. Maybe they're afraid becuase your house doesn't have correct protection and doesn't have the gates for keeping a dog in, consider having either an outside or an inside dog, they are very different. Taking care of a dog does take a lot of love and care, for the first couple of months they will pee and poop in the wrong places, and your parents may not want to go through that ordeal.
There are specific ways you can toilet train puppies that only take about a month to work, and they are effective.
Money is also sometimes a barrier for people, taking care of a dog does cost quite a bit, you've got the vet bills, the food, the toys, the grooming, replacing things the dog bites.. and such. there's also the thing about training the dog, you can either go with professional trainers or go to a simple puppy class (which is what i did) learn the basics of teaching a dog, and you can go on from there.
good luck! (dogs are brilliant, but remember they aren't toys, they need the love and affection of everyone!)

How old are you, if i may ask. You do sound young.
Perhaps your parents are saying you wont look after the dog going on your previous record. You have to show you are responsible and really care.
The suggestion you work at a shelter is very good. You will learn that animal care is not all fun and fluff, there are the very dirty jobs and the boring ones.
As you live under yout parent's roof, and presumeabley still at school and not earning any money, your parents will have to meet all the costs involved. These are not small.
As you are concerned your neighbour's dogs will harm your dog, you will transmit that fear to the dogs and things may happen. Sounds like you are really not ready to get a dog.

Getting a dog is a very exciting experience. However before you get a dog there are a few important things you have to do. Firstly do alot of research on the type or breed of dog you want to get. Such as the characteristics of the dog, food and care requirements etc.... Also ask yourself if you have enough time to look after the dog.... When you first get a dog it is most likely to be a puppy and would require a lot of attention and love.... Living in your home is a new environment for the dog and it would take time for the dog to get used to the new environnment and also the other people of the house... The dog due to nervousness may even fall sick.... You would probably have to bring it to the vet and get the necessary shots and all..... Its like taking care of a newborn.... So you have to ask yourself if you have the time and ready to take on the new responsibility.... Having a dog is a great experience and in my opinon it is the best of companions... I have 3 dogs..... At first it took up so much of my time I hardly had time to sleep and my schedule at least for the first week revolved around the dogs schedule.....My parents were totally against the idea of having any dogs but i went ahead and got a dog anyway and they soon too fell in love with it... However i think it us very important that you have a good talk with your parents and show them that you have the responsibilty to take good care of the dog....When you are busy other members of your familiy would have to step in to take care of the dog....So pls think very carefully before getting a pet.... They are so many instances whn owners dont have the time to take care of their dogs even though they love it and the dog is the only one who ends up suffering... I am sure you will consider all these facts before getting a dog and take very good care of it if you do decide to get one.... About golden retrivers, even though they are big in size they are very friendly animals and should have no problem getting along with your dog... However that depends on the type of dog you want to get....So do your research.....

It will take a bit to convence. Time that is. Talk to them. They are afraid you will take care of it a couple weks to a couple months and then no longer care. Do your research into the dog you want. Is it like a lab or dalmation where glasses on the end tables are not safe. Indoor or outdoor? Getting one with long hair like a shepard or retriever that needs to be brushed. Remember short hair is low maintenance. A small dog is less food and smaller accidents even though a accident is still not want you wish to clean up. But sit down with your parents and pick out with them some daily chores. If you can do these for how ever long with very little complaining and reminding then you may get a dog. Dogs require some attention so you will need to spend time with the dog instead of running off with your friends all the time. My parents do not want a dog because they want to go on vaction or just not have to come home to let a dog out or to just have to feed. Be ready to keep the what ever your chores are for awhile done and to not be able to go off with your friends because you have to take care of your dog. An outside dog will be eaier but still needs love and attention but will be easier up keep.

Golden retrievers are generally not aggressive. So it's unlikely that would be a problem.
But having a dog is a big responsibility. If you don't spend a lot of time with your dog, it will become a problem. Dogs have to be fed and watered every day. They have to be walked and played with and given lots of loving attention. You have to tune in to a dog because it can't say things to you in words.
It might work to make a deal with your parents: that if you don't take good care of your dog, they can give it away.
Good luck. The best friend I've ever had was my dog.

well, my parents never wanted a dog either(I'm 11) but me and my sister both wanted 1 so we wrote a report! it was about how we will take care of it and pay for the supplies. so you can write a report about the dog and how u will love it and care for it!
it worked 4 me now my parents love my dog!!!I and don't worry i don't think the neighbors dog will hurt yours just always keep yours on a leash! if u don't know what type of dog you want i have a Cairn Terrier it loves me and every 1 it meets they r very sweet loving animals once u see them you cant take your eyes off of them!

well, that depends on if you live with your parents. golden retrievers are good dogs and get along with other animals. show your parents that you can handle the responsibility by getting a small animal like a fish or hamster.

Listen to your parents. They'll be the ones to pay for care for a dog, they'll be the ones who'll probably do most of the training etc. It's their home too.
