My babies are over 12 mths old and are still eating baby food.

I would like them to start normal food but...they don´t chew properly and one of them ends up vomiting.

What foods should I start with?

I´m afraid they´ll lose weight...they are prems and are below the average weight for their age. (they are currently 14 mths-corrected age)

it's time introduce him/her to the foods that are sold yet soft or easy to chew (ex.squash etc.), or ask your pedia for further infos. it is not really neccesary to actually teach your baby how to chew, however they will automatically learn it if you just introduce to them the right one..oh b4 i 4got it's very normal to babies to vomit the food they eat...or chop first the food using a fork or spoon before giving it to them...good luck!:)

Ask your doctor but I think twelve months is too soon for full food. They usually go from baby food to junior meals and then to regular food. Chewing is a natural occurance that doesn't need to be taught

At 14 months they should be able to chew soft foods like mashed potatoes, mashed peas, things that are grown up foods but slightly mashed until they get used to them. Or put cooked peas, tiny carrots and small cut green beans on their table tray and let them pick it up and try to eat them. Good luck.

Have you tried any stage 3 baby foods yet -- the ones that are chunky? That's a good way to introduce them to the new texture of regular food.

Then you can move on to foods that are very soft that they can mash with their gums. They'll figure out how to do it.

Here is what my 11-month-old daughter eats, among other things:
- bananas, bananas, and more bananas
- baked sweet potatoes...they are firm enough that you can cut them up into pieces for your babies to pick up but still plenty soft enough to mash with gums
- canned peas, carrots, green beans
- whole grain waffles, pancakes, and other soft bread; she especially loves whole wheat bread with a little cream cheese on it
- soft fresh fruits like mango, cantaloupe, and watermelon
- canned fruits like peaches, pears, and mandarin oranges
- scrambled egg yolk
- yogurt
- Cheerios; and when she first started on this, I soaked them in milk or formula so they would be soft enough for her.
- veggie burgers (Gardenburger brand, original flavor)
- meatless meatballs (made from soy protein...nice and soft)
- slices of cheese torn into small bits
- and I still give her baby oatmeal mixed with formula

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Teach them how to chew food by eating some and showing and telling them how it is done so they'll mimic what you are doing.
