I see it a lot on here and know guys like this but I do not understand it. They are absolutely my favorite animal. I study psychology so one would think I could figure this out - but it baffles me to no end. Is it because cats seem so independent and self-sufficient - and some people thing "arrogant" in a way? Really, help me understand this. In Egypt they were worshipped and Salem they were burned. So freaking bizarre.

I think this is a very complex problem that goes deeper than poo in the garden or a scratch. Part of it is the way cats won't be dominated. Another part is the silent way they move. People who hate cats are always talking about how "sneaky" they are.
With the glowing eyes, the silent walk, the f**k you attitude, cats can seem like creatures from another world. Spooky.
Of course if you love cats this all seems rather silly. "The cat will consent to be your friend but never your slave."

It's actually fear of cats (ailurophobia). People with this phobia cannot tolerate even being near to a cat. They may break out in a sweat at the sight of a cat, have difficulty breathing, and may even become hysterical. Some though just do not like cats - they are not cat people. Their choice fo a pet may be a dog, a rabbit, a hamster - but never a cat. In most cases, such people cannot even explain why they dislike or fear cats. It isn't something they can control. Some people "hate" spiders. Some "hate" snakes. Some "hate" mice....

i'm unable to respond to this definitively, yet frequently i think of human beings in simple terms don't comprehend cats. i like cats and canines, so i'm neither a canines individual or cat individual. yet what I hear the main of is that cats are too "elusive" or tempermental. canines are thoroughly committed to us, the place cats at the instant are not as needy (most of the time). I extremely have heard human beings say that they do seem evil or like they are plotting. and a few human beings do unlike that as quickly as they call a cat, they forget approximately them. I evaluate this component to their appeal...LOL All in all, i think of it is much less annoying to take a cat and cause them to seem extra evil than say a labrador. yet do not forget, additionally they make rottweilers and pit bulls seem quite evil and that may not genuine. Any canines could be made mean without desirable care and with abuse.

You've answered your own question: "independent" "self-sufficient" "snooty". Human beings are the highest 'specie' in the biological chain of living things. How dare this arrogant feline snubs me? Cats are like goats - independently scavenging for food - no class. Dogs like sheeps need to be tended and cared for - that's where the humans feel needed, feeling superior that another specie need them to survive. I love both but I will never own any pet.

I think it has alot to do with irresponsible owners. I have 2 indoor cats I love to death. However I love in the country and they get dumped out here and breed like crazy and are feral as hell. They get on our cars in our trash bring fleas in our yard and have kittens under our house and we end up having to get them out at least twice a year and take them to the SPCA and animal control here is the biggest joke in the world. We had to go buy live traps ourselves to help take care of the problem. I don't think people would hate them as much if they didn't ruin their property.

You answered your own question really.
Cats seem independent and don't 'pant' at your every move. Cats can look at you like they're looking right into your soul. Some people don't like that kind of scrutiny. I love cats - not all cats though. Like dogs too but, I don't like all dogs. Come to think of it - I don't like all people either.

Dictators hate cats, Hitler hated cats. Cats have a character and are not submissive. Enslavers like dogs.

Well, everyone has their own tastes. Just because cats were worshipped way back doesn't mean everyone MUST love them. People just don't like certain things because they just don't.

Ignorance. Cats are self sufficent with lots of pride. They don't take any static off of people who don't treat them with respect. If you don't like them, they will ignore you. If you are nice to them, they will be your best friend and show you unconditional love.

I don't like them because they stick their claws into you - Dogs don't do that...and they linger. I've also been bitten by a cat before, when I was STROKING it. I'm not keen on dogs either - especially when they pounce.
