If "superpower" is defined as a nation that has "overwhelming influence over world affairs" (Wikipedia), I'd say that the status of the U.S. as a superpower is clearly waning. Venezuela, Russia, Iran and China are forming loose, but opposing, alliances against the U.S. Our few remaining allies in the Middle East are lukewarm friends at best.

The world has changed so much during the 6 years of the Bush administration that it's hard to say what will become of the U.S.

It's a matter of time before China overtake US as the world's largest economy. Currently, US is the world's largest economy with total Gross Domestic Product of US$ 11 trillion, and China's economy totalled US $ 2 trillion.

It may be a whopping US$ 9 trillion of difference, but take note that China is growing consistently at 8% per annum. While on the other hand, US has not been growing consistently, and growth is usually within 3-4%.

Since "money = power" in today's political condition, once China overtake US to become the world's largest economy, ultimately they have the greatest power.

Depends on how you view a "Superpower". So far, it seems to be viewed as military might. From that point, I think America will continue to build it's traditional military stock for many reasons. As far as cultural superpower, America certainly had a great chance to strengthen its position--but, since the beginning of this new millennium, its moral footing has slipped dramatically.

If anything America will implode. I think that we are beginning our incline now. We will be a super power for a while to come. China will become very very strong soon, why? Because we are sending all of our jobs and technology there for the cheaper costs!

Greed and the almighty american dollar will bring us down.

Hopefully as soon as possible. Unfortunately America 'holds all the cards'

They are armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons. They are trying to prevent any otherr country from having any; and they have military bases in almost every country on earth.

AMERICA IS NOT A SUPERPOWER ANY LONGER SINCE 2001.

The term "superpower" is an obsolete term from the Cold War of the 80's. This term is only used in history classes and "self-promotion" of the American government.

There are no superpower any longer...only "BULLIES"!

Sometime in the next century. The US is isolating itself from a lot of governments, and people will realize that the US has made itself an insignificant world player. Enter China, India, Iran.

When we form into the American Union. Never heard of the American Union, google it, it will shock you, the joining of USA, Mexico and Canada. Or just go to the government's website on this issue.

The official government site paints it to make it look pretty, but it isn't.
