We first must believe that it can be done! Then it is important for each of us to take personal responsibility to become more understanding toward ourselves and others. Next, it is critical to work hard to become more effective academically and professionally. Perhaps most important, we must do something as consistently as possible. Again, never assume that you/we cannot accomplish it. In the beginning, Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, and Florence Nightingale stood alone! World peace is not likely to happen tomorrow, but if we give up, we give power to the other side, our own dark side!! Research the union movement, abolitionism, women's suffrage, the Vietnam protest movement, Nelson Mandela, and the Civil Rights movement for encouragement. Despite the seeming impossibility of world peace, the number of deaths due to wars as a fraction of world population has declined dramatically since World War II.
