Sayyida Sakina also called Ruqiyya in some histories was the three year old (some say five year old) daughter of Husain bin Ali (a.s), who was the the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (s.a.). This little girl was the youngest daughter of Husain bin Ali (a.s.) and his favorite. She used to sleep on her daddy's chest every night.

After the battle of Karbala in which Husain and his 72 followers were massacred in 680 AD by the Muslim armies of the emperor of Islam Yazeed bin Muawiah, his enemies mistreated Husain's daughter in various ways, along with other members of the Prophet's grand-daughters and grandsons.

Thirty children of Bani Hashim, the tribe of Prophet Mohammad were killed by falling off of bare backed camels on which the women were forced to ride on while their hands were tied as they were travelling from Karbala to Kufa (another city in Iraq) and then onwards to Damascus, Syria.

The camels were made to run fast and at night so that the murder of the grandson of the Prophet would not leak out and also to avoid the interception of those loyal to the Prophet to come to the rescue of the family of the Prophet. Sakina survived this journey.

Sakina received especially severe treatment as she was the favorite of Husain. Her ear rings were torn out of her little ear lobes, she used to be slapped regularly for crying for her daddy. Shimr, the man who had slaughtered Husain was especially rough with her, as he was a cruel and cold man.

She died in the open air prison in the city of Damascus, Syria, where the seat of Muslim power was moved by the Umayyad kings. She died within two months of being incarcertated where she was held along with the women folk of the Prophet's family and her older brother Ali Bin Husain, the only survivor among the males. He was kept alive by their enemies to humiliate him in the Court of Yazeed. He was called Sayyid-e-Sajjad meaning the best or leader of those who prostrate in worship of the Lord Most High.

On a night when Sakina was longing for her daddy much more than she normally did and was crying unconsolably and more intensely than she normally did, Shimr or one of the prison guards gave her the severed head of her father. She went into shock and died that night, holding the head of her father.

She was given a quiet burial inside the prison itself in her own clothes by her older brother. Her tomb now is a shrine which is visited by millions from all over in memory of the youngest daughter of Husain bin Ali. Her father's head was buried in Damascus. His body was interred in Karbala in Iraq, where there are several tombs of the martyrs of Karbala.

I hope this answers your question.

The link below contains a lot of information on Sakina. I didn't read the entire thing (it's long) but I didn't see anything about her dying, but having lived from the beginning of time.
