The church learned this technique from an early First contact. Back in its formative years, 2 Ferengi landed in the middle east and found in the developing xtian world the perfect race of proxies. Driven by the search for power and profit, these people were admirably suited to act on behalf of the absent owners and financial managers of planet earth and return an account of their financial activities when the Ferengi Damons made their second coming.
Unfortunately, due to mistranslation of the ancient records, the second coming became associated with a long deceased heretic but, since this avoided death duties, it remained on the books until today.
Now, is that any more probable than the "official" reason?

If you are tithing from all you have, then it really doesn't matter if you give every week or three times a year. The end result would be the same, wouldn't it?
You are right, though. It shouldn't be bullied out of you. The Lord loveth a cheerful giver. He wants us to give freely. My church doesn't ask how much you make or follow up on how much you give. They don't even necessarily know, unless you write a check or something.

Tithing should always come from the Heart, not only from the Pocket. Paul said to give as much as you are able, and to what God has given to him or her.Sacrificial giving must be responsible. 2 Cor: 8:12. You should give as a response to Christ, not for anything you can get out of it.

Jesus warned His followers that once Him could come deceivers; wolves in sheep's clothing, and that they could proffer deceptions that, if it have been achievable, even the choose could be deceived. That replaced into His way of asserting the deceptions could be VERY convincing. How then do you already know a deception? you may concern your ideals to the suited examination by Scripture. there are particular regulations which could be utilized, or you may justify virtually something, and finally end up in deceptions as a effect. First rule then: No guy or church has the suited to change Scripture or its utility in any way. Scripture is "God-breathed" and "God stimulated." God replaced into no longer negligent while it includes the written observe of God. God did no longer inadvertently pass away issues unsaid and undone. What then does Scripture say approximately tithing? Tithing replaced into an old covenant factor of regulation. in case you study Acts financial ruin 15, you will see that coaching old covenant regulation to those Gentile Christians who weren't Jewish replaced into seen as subverting their souls. Why? because of the fact the concentration comes off of religion, and gets positioned back on factors of regulation, and complying with a collection of regulations and regulations that have been designed for Israel. faith is compromised. What replaced into the tithe? The tithe replaced right into a 10th of the upward push of produce and farm animals. no person replaced into ever commanded to tithe on their wages. The tithe replaced into shared with the Levites, widows, orphans, and the poor of the land. while a church teaches human beings to tithe, they are changing Scripture and its utility. they are subverting Christian's souls. while the apostle Paul made his case for help, and that ministers had a appropriate to assist, he did no longer use tithing as a justification. He noted quite no longer muzzling the ox that treads the grain. Who then dares to change Scripture and its utility? Wolves in sheep's clothing. Sheep's clothing potential that for all intents and applications, they seem to be solid, God-fearing pastors who does not harm a fly, yet they feed their bellies on the cost of others, and if some poor guy or woman has to go through as a effect of "paying tithes" it truly is basically too undesirable. stop feeding wolves. Christians are social gathering to the hot covenant; no longer the old. The old ended. you're actually not required to maintain on with old covenant factors of regulation, whether or no longer they have been altered (perverted) or no longer. Or, do you like deceptions? .

I can only speak from a Catholic point of view but whilst the church does constantly ask for the faithful to donate money it never demands it. Everyone is expected to donate according to their means and 10% of your earnings is just a suggestion. I would guess that the majority of people give nowhere near that amount.
Tithes where compulsory, I understand, in the middle ages.

Duet. is for the Jews.
In our faith, and by that I mean non denominational bible based faith, not religion. You give what you can when you can. Yes, God wants a tithe of your first fruits, but you can only be a blessing when you are blessed.
Jesus told a story of a woman who gave two pennies. His disciple aksed him well what is that? He said it was all she had. It meant more than the actual value of the coins.
God will make you a blessing so you can be a blessing on others. He will put in your heart where to put your money. If the church asks for money for a project, for example; a youth center or gym, if it is not in your heart to give, it is o.k. you will not be made to feel guilty. If it is put in your heart, then you will give, and freely, and ashured what ever you make happen for others, God will make happen for you.

indeed you realise that "Who or what body of people does that nowadays? " .
Surely you have realised that the dueter. is one of the 1st 5 books, and that things have changed since then, even the rules set by God? Inflation sets in, but thats besides the point anyway, we tithe and offer to Him of our free will, not by force. For God loves a cheerful giver.

How do you think a church exists. Do you think the pastor just has the money needed to run a church, just fall down upon him. It is just like anything else, it takes money to run it. Yes, they do have volunteers, but they do have paying jobs too. That is just life, ask any business how they run it, they have to somehow get the money to run it. Churches are no different.

The only duty today's Christians have is to give what they can afford (time, talent, treasure) to help support the work of the church.
Overemphasis of charitable giving and of tithes is an abuse and a sin.

In the Christian Bible, no particular time is set; just an amount, ten percent of what you earn. When you give it is up to you.
