The purpose is to find someone you connect with, and grow together. Basically, both of the people are trying out one another to see if they are really made for each other or if it was just a fling in the beginning. Ya know? Yeah, you can face the world alone, but sometimes it can get lonely, REAL LONELY. Not just for girls but for guys as well. You are gonna eventually want to be with someone, and not just a one night stand. You should try it out (if you haven't already). But you must also remember that it takes two people to have a good relationship.

if to function this world, yes we do need relationships to find a mate and continue the human race.

we can still choose to stay and face the world alone if we aren't suitable/not ready to have a relationship, no point forcing yourself, might even have negative results.

Name something that is meant to stand alone. Even a chair has four legs. What is there to choose from if one is alone? Would the tides still be without the moon?

Depending on your perspective, of course, how well one does facing something alone is dependent on their perspective about how many challenges there are in the world. Could one truely be content in every day life as we know it today? Without gravity, we would be flung from this life as we know it. Even a rose has thorns...and so relationships are as essential to us as functioning is to living.

Im taking the word relationships to signify that of man/woman because the topic is singles & dating ; )

I believe it depends on individuals themselves. Yes, you can function alone, but would life be worth if spent all alone? Yes you have parents, and uncles and siblings and alot of friends, but they would all start, at a point, to become involved with their own lives and families. Parents get old and die, friends move, get hitched, and in the end you would be really alone. I'm not saying that we are in relationships for fear of ending up alone, but being in one helps yourself in many ways. Often, if you end up with a right specimen of a person, he or she may balance your inadequecies and eventually make you a better person...

No man is an island.
And man and woman make each other complete.

You need people around you to experience the full force of life. You learn more when you interact with one another and you become a wiser and more well-informed human being.

Good Relationships --> Civilised world (:

And of course, if you find your soulmate you have someone to share your problems and live the rest of your life with.
