I think it reasserts their religious beliefs (i.e. I'm such a good Muslim, Christian etc. bc I'm persecuting the non-believers). It requires nothing of them and gives them an outlet to attack you, release aggression.

Not all do. In fact, I'd say the majority doesn't. The cross-section presented on this site is far from accurate.
As to why? If you believe you are right, and firmly believe that, most people are fine. I think it may well be a lack of confidence--maybe more in their beliefs than themselves--that causes people to lash out with their religion.

One of the main purposes of the original 10 Commandments was to give us a way to know exactly what constituted a sin.
As sin, by its' very nature constitutes evil, those who are able to recognize sin when they see it or do it, are obligated to try to do something about it, both for the common good, and for the good of the sinner.
Unconcerned or ignorant sinners don't appreciate this, and consider it judgmental, rather than charitable.
Such is life.

They figure that because they found religion, then it must be their duty to convert everyone. It seems to me to be a form of religious policing.

they lack faith in what they beleive. you shouldnt have to convince anyone that your beleifs are right. if thats what your heart tells you then thats all that matters. why do you think that you dont ever see pagana here trying to convert people???? its because they are comfident in their choice,

Because they feel that they are better and above others in the eyes of God, so they judge.

Many fundamentalists are control freaks. They want you and I to live like they do and they like to use their moral certitude to try and intimidate us into compliance.
