How to make a model of "Working of the Panama Canal" for the exibition?

It must be a solid model which can be kept for the science exibition. I would like to make the various locks in the panama canal so that i can show how ships are passed through the canal.

Not sure what is meant by "the working of...", but this is what I would do:
Download Google Earth Plus from http://earth.google.com/downloads.html
Install it on your computer.
Go to latitude 8°59'43.84"N / longitude 79°35'25.38"W
and build your model according to what you see.....
