this is going to sound crazy but IKEA as well as selling Furniture they also have food products. That sort of liquorice comes from Scandinavia try it. Also try a dutch website they are also famous for it.

it's in gourmet shops/delicatessens in australia
don't know where you might get a supply yourself
why not buy some plain licorice ans seep it in a brine solution -might be worth a try
remember though-too much salt is bad for your arteries and blood pressure

The only place that I have seen it is in Sweden sorry can't be any more help full.I tried it but thought it was terrible.
