He whines everynight. But as soon as I get up and stay up he goes back into the bedroom and falls asleep. I read somewhere about cats not doing things to annoy or holding grudges but I don't believe that to be true as both my cats do things to annoy me when I'm sleeping or when I'm not home.

I usually sleep with earplugs and they work most of the time. But on nights (like right now) where I have to wake up to go somewhere in the morning I don't so I hear every little noise they make. I've tried putting them in the bathroom before but it's right next to our bedroom and I still hear them. There food and water is easily accessible and always fresh, filled to the top, as is their litter...clean, sifted through, toys readily available for them to pounce on. Is there anything else I can do that does not involve me waking up? Something other than playing with them before bed as that doesn't work?

We live in an apartment on the second floor off of a main road. Going outside is out of the question. There are only two rooms that have a door, the beddroom and bathroom. I play with them before bedtime, it's not working, and Dancegirl...do what a little at a time? Come on people, I'm serious! I have needs too, it's called I need to sleep just as much as they need to wake me up. I can't take it anymore, could someone give me a real suggestion??

Consider getting or building an outdoor cat enclosure for your naughty kitties. They are probably bored. I know this is the problem with one of my cats. Keeps me up all night since we moved. So, I am going to build a simple cat enclosure (like a giant chicken coop) with a little cat house I can make all snug and warm for them. They can be out there during the day and part of the night. I plan to bring them in when its bedtime. Hopefully, this will solve the cats' boredom and by the time its bedtime, he is ready to snuggle into a warm blanket next to me.

Good luck!

Isolate it to a more distant part of the house, then turn on some white noise quietly in your bedroom.

Play with it before bed time that way it gets tired and wants to sleep

Do it a little at a time. If you do it to fast your cat will not like it and DO NOT lock it in the bathroom, its probbly whinning for you!
