We use this name for girls in Turkish. I think it's either Arabic or Farsi oriented. Dictionary meaning of this word is young plant or tree. But as a name it means a person who has a thin and tall figure.

I think this name is very elegant and graceful. I've never seen it used for males though.

What I found about the name NIHAL doesn't sound very good, maybe you should think of another name.

Although the name Nihal creates the urge to be a leader and organizer, we stress that it causes a materialistic approach that frustrates higher humanitarian qualities.

This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the reproductive organs, and tension or accidents to the head.

The first name of Nihal creates a shrewd, aggressive, business nature, intent on personal gain.

The desires for independence and financial success have been strong motivating forces from early in your life.

You are capable of logical and analytical thinking along practical business lines, and could excel in financial fields, law, or politics.

Your judgment is seldom swayed through your feelings.

NIHAL is also a star:

The star Nihal (Scientific Name Beta Leporis) is located at right ascension 5h 28.245m and declination -20° 45.567'.

Nihal is a relatively bright star with a magnitude of 2.84. The spectral class of this star is G5II.

The origin of the name NIHAL is Hindu.

This word is mostly used in Hindi and Punjabi.
In day to day life, it is used to express the following:
1.Thankfully impressed
2.Hypnotically impressed
3. or simply Impressed
In conversation, as you notice, it is used as a verb only. It is not used as a noun alone. So "Nihal" alone will not mean "Impression" and can not be used as a single word in conversation (except for human names).
See these examples:
Nihal karna= To impress(The verb is "nihal karna" as a whole)
Nihal Hona=To get impressed(The verb is "nihal hona" as a whole)
Usne mujhe nihal kar diya=He/She has impressed me.
Main nihal ho gaya= I am impressed.

Nihal, as a name is however well accepted and many people have it. I have mostly seen this name among Sikhs (Nihal Singh). In my persoanl opinion it is a "sweet sounding name" and reasonably small in size. So go ahead.
