Of course there are. But when I tell someone that prayer is superstitution I feel that my answer is valid especially when someone is sick. Am I not really doing good by suggesting they see a doctor, instead of laying down and waiting for a god to cure them?

Yes, you are right I shouldn't have said that prayer is superstitution, as it would not help this person at this point in their life.
I appreciate that none of your answers have been hateful so far.

"God" or the concept of an omnipotent being actually is there to help those in need comfort themselves and to provide hope. Certainly you can tell someone that if they feel that praying will help, do so without a lecture on your belief system. Do, however, explain to them God heps those who helps themselves. Thus he gave man the intelligence to be healers of the body.
People of strong conviction will not hear what you say, rather they will condemn it and become even more convinced that the illness of they or a loved one has is the "work of evil".
You are obviously a thinker and intelligent enough to craft your words carefully in the discussion you need to have with those in question.

No! There are no bad answers. If someone answers a question or states their opinion, at least you know they acknowledged you. If a person is sick and request to see a doctor...take them to the doctor. If a person requests prayer during their illness...first ask them if they have seen a doctor and if they have, be honest with them about your thoughts on prayer....and hold their hand anyways.
It is okay to agree to disagree. Sick people will appreciate an honest hand to hold...regardless of the faith of the person who's hand their are holding.

People often do not seem to understand that going to the doctor is actually part of the prayer...that prayer and action are the same. Prayer will lead one to the right doctor, or the right church...the right pesrson...

I know prayer works, from my own experiences. I believe you should seek medical help when one is sick. after all God gave man the reasoning abilities, to become doctors of this fearfully & wonderfully made bodies, that He created. My doctors told me I would not walk after my accident, but I said you do not know my God, He knows more than all the medical doctors combined.
Because He lives, I live and walk.

They should see a doctor but there is no reason why they can't pray too. God uses doctors to heal. They can pray that God will lead them to the right doctor and that He will guide their minds in the diagnosis and if there is an operation, to guide their hands.

Telling somebody who believes in prayer that it is superstition is bad but telling him to see a doctor is good.
Believing in God is as superstitious as not believing in it. Neither the believer has any convincing proof of its existence nor the non-believer has of its non-existence. Let people be guided by their own beliefs but do suggest them to go to doctor to make the prayers effective.

look..praying alone is no good,i agree........like when you go to an exam without learning anything and expecting to come on top of the class just bcos u prayed to god now tht is damn stupid..........but saying tht prayer has no effect is also wrong...god does listen to our prayers.IF we do our duty........or else it's worthless......like in the example which u gave........true we must go to the doctor but we should also pray...coz like the operation cud go wrong........or the medicine which u got cud be the wrong one or sumthing like tht

This person's beliefs are valid to him/her and they requested prayer and that's what he/she got from others who believe in it.

When I became a Christian I asked God to take away my desire to smoke. It left that very day. My friend's sister got HIV and his family prayed and it went away. You should come to my church and talk to some of the people there. Email me if your ever in Tennessee.
