My entire adult life I have given nicknames to my friend and family. It should be something personal. Hang out with him take the time to talk to him do not rush it. He will do or say something that will be perfect for a nickname. Maybe in the process wonderful memories will be made.

A nickname doesn't have to derive from the base name. Check out the kids personality and pull something out there....
