pc running in windows environment in addition to linux(susi 10.3) not properly installed but unix is running effeciently . recently i installed encarta 2005 .shut downs abruptly . from then onwards my pc restarting and shutdowns

You can try to boot into safe mode and roll back windows to a point using system restore to when it was working.
To be honest, I might think it a hardware problem too, just might be strange timing it happened now. There are times when a bad power supply will cause restarts and shutdowns. If it is something that started after you loaded Encarta, but not right after. Like it was fine for a few days then started to act up.
You can do a search on the net for repairing a windows install, there are some good ones out there, but I warn you, some of them get complicated if you are not familar with using the command line. You have to copy files form the dick to the hard drive, use the repair console, and if you dual boot linux, you might get an overwrite of the master boot record and loose the ability to boot both, then you will have to fix the dual boot to.

sfc /scannow
type this in and windows file protection will run .Don't interupt it .
