Kind of to go along with the other answers, in English people say, "What's up?" but they aren't really asking what is up. All languages have slang phrases, and que pasa is/could be one in Spanish.

Hola means hello or hi. You can greet someone with Que pasa, but it would be like saying "what's up" rather than hello.

Picture waking up from anesthetic having an asthma attack and nurses running around and giving me oxygen. brrrrr ♥♥♥
