Typically, when people are interviewed on TV, the interview ends with the interviewer saying: "Thank You ... "; typically, the interviewed replies: "Thank You" ... why do they seldom, instead, reply: "You are welcome"?

=did you ever think that thank you was the best answer and that both sincerely meant it cause the interview was over??!!

I believe the interviewer says thank u to the person interviewed for having spared time to take the interview and in return, the interviewed person is grateful to have been invited there in the first place

"Thank you" and the use of names are like codes for the other person to know that the conversation is over, or for the other person to know that it is his/her turn to respond. This started a long time ago on Channel 7 Eyewitness news. People liked the idea that the people seemed to have a conversation and that the public was being allowed to listen in. It worked so well that it soon caught on with other stations.

i guess it depends on why the interviewed was interviewed...
when the interviewed accounts for something misunderstood, probably s/he thanks for the opportunity s/he had to explain the case/problem.

It may be the familiarity the two have with one another, if they are friends outside the studio they may be more likely to say your welcome.

i guess they are expressing thanks for being interviewed. it helps their publicity after all. and saying "you are welcome" seems a bit proud..
