What do you think, does Ritalin help or make the situation worse. Her mom wants her on it and i just dont want to give it to her, but i do. She does have some attention problems, i just think that this drug is such a strong one that it could end up being worse for her. She does this thing now where she is flicking out her arms like she is some sort of magician or something and it might just be a phase, she sleeps fine and is just the perfect litttle girl to me but maybe that is cuz she is my little girl? is it good or bad? tell me what u think out there and help me out

I know this is a difficult decision b/c my nephew is on Ritalin. A lot of ppl say its like giving your kid speed off the street. What i noticed is that my nephew is not the same boy. he gets tired and isn't as full of zest as he was. but he has improved at school he is getting his work done and having better concentration. before he had trouble staying on task when asked to do something. I do think that a lot of schools would rather have the children medicated b/c it makes their job easier. they are a lot of work and require a lot of attention which can be extremely difficult if they are more children. this is just my opinion. i also think Ritalin is over prescribed but it does have its benefits i guess if you can get over the fact that it is like a amphetamine. but if it will help the child i guess you have to look at both sides.

well I wouldn't,but I wouldn't tell you what to do,I think children change when on these drugs and when taken off these drugs, not so good things seem to happen.my granddaughter said something to me one day that just may be true.she said that by little kids watching so much t.v.,they get so use to things moving quickly, and what they watch can excite them so that when they go to school,it seems slow to them and that pace doesn't hold their attention, therefore they end up labeled add or whatever.there may be truth to that.I would be more patient with her and try to redirect some of her energy to a good place. If she has teachers that have less patience than your child needs then find a teacher whose at school to really teach and that person can help.good luck and I hope I haven't told you anything harmful for I know you are concerned for your child.

So you want to know about Ritilin and ADD (or whatever) and should your daughter be on it?

Check out South Park episode 404 and you'll know exactly what your little girl needs and doesn't need. Watch the whole episode and 'pay attention'.

And to quote Mr. Mackey from episode 204: "Drugs are bad, mmmkay?"

personal experience: Ritalin has never worked on my daughter and she is adhd. taking Ritalin made my daughter pick at her skin leaving little sores as well as uncontrollable crying. we are currently experimenting with different combinations of medicines for my daughter but my best advice is hold on for dear life cause its gonna be a bumpy ride.
