I'm just curious... to you believers, have you ever met a real-life atheist? I've met many Christians and when I've told them I'm a non-believer, I usually get, "but... you're too NICE to be an atheist." or "I never would have guessed you are not a believer!" Just what, exactly, would you think an atheist is? Horns? A tail? A Pentagram on our foreheads? Sacrificing small animals to the midnight moon?

We are ALL persecuted for our beliefs... I don't care if you're Christian, Muslim, Jewish, pagan, atheist or FSM. No one gets a free ride in this world. If you think you, as a Christian, are persecuted, try talking a day in my shoes. Look at your world through my eyes and tell a few people you are a non-believer while trying hard to interact in a positive way with the world in general... THEN tell me you are persecuted.

epopsitsirhcitna: I'm not degrading Christians... I honestly want to know. I know a lot of other things I could say to degrade Christians but that's not my purpose. No, I don't believe in god and I'm not a Satanist, I assure you. I believe in giving what you, yourself, would like to receive from others. Give out positivity, receive the same. I am often disappointed, but I won't stop trying.
It's quite typical for people to lash out at those they perceive to be a threat... and to believers, non-believers are a threat. It's not that there are so many more of us today... it's that we're not keeping quiet any longer at being harrassed and mistreated.

i am catholic, but most of my friends are athiest. Being christian, i believe that we shouldn't care what other people believe, or if they dont have a religion, and those of think that all athiests, as you put it, have horns, a tail, and a pentagram on their heads, need a serious brain transplant.
But then again i live in london, and most people here wouldn't admit to being religious anyway.

My first husband was an atheist and still is 25 years later. He just feels that there are some very questionable things in the bible. You probably have just as many questions for the Christians and they do about Atheist. One fact for sure is that if you would put 1 Christian and one Athiest in the same room for 24hours they are still going to be discussing the same things and are getting no where.
As for when you meet someone and the subject of religion comes up, you could always just say that you have your religion, I have mine and I prefer not to speak about that. As for the ones that say "your too nice", well at that point I would wish for a horn or tail. Maybe even some piercing red eyes. Who knows. You have your beliefs, morals, and upbringing the same as theirs and they are walking around with blindfolds on. Atheism should be treated the same as Baptist. Methodist, Catholic, etc.

I'm from Holland, a slightly different country than the US most people on this forum come from. It was actually only at 16 when I first met a Christian. God was never even an issue when I grew up. Not at home, not with friends, not at school.
It took me some time, after meeting a Christian for the first time, to realise that for Christian the God-concept truly is a real concept. I couldn't even begin to believe that at first.
Now I know that to them the God-concept is a real one, which of course I respect. I don't understand it, but I respect it.
That having said, I can understand how Christians living in a society that is drenched in God, have difficulty understanding atheism. Me and my girlfriend are planning to move to the USA. I can only hope that someday they will understand my atheism, in the same way I've learned to understand their Christianity.

I see you've resorted to degrading questions as if Christians are ignorant or something. Maybe the ones you've met haven't learned that nice doesn't mean 'going to Heaven one day'. I am a Christian and have known plenty of athiests and agnostics. I am 29 years old and have believed only for two years now. I can also tell you that many of these people (unbelievers) can be very 'nice'. Satan can be nice, too.
Those things you referred to as being things we must imagine athiests doing are actually what we believe Satanists like to do. Maybe you are a closet Satanist.

Yes, I live my life as a nice-athiest! What is not ordinary or common is usually viewed as wrong, nasty with horns of course... I state my choice of religion with confidence, never preaching. .it's like watching two women make out. That is now not only acceptable but enjoyed and watched and not a gross thought to the ordinary mind. Women are soft. Women are beautiful. A threesome with two women is a common fantasy that is easy to say aloud in mixed company. But two men making out together is still disgusting, not loving, nothing beautiful about it. Sooner than later, beleive it or not, I think this will be an OK picture in our head also. Right or Wrong. God-willing, man providing.

Have met many an atheist -- - - - and you are quite correct, no horns or otherwise identifying marks. Know that I am lecturing a bit, but I don't think that you fully understand - -- most fanatical Evangelical Christians consider anyone who doesn't accept Christ as being an Atheist - - - not simply a lack of belief in God. When they say "but you're too Nice to be an atheist." they are being as rude as possible.
Peace...

Yes, i do met a real-life atheist before.
Atheist is also a human being who can do alot of wonderfull things. Atheists differ from a religioustic person by not accepting Jesus Christ as His personal saviour.
In the country where i live in, they never call themselves atheist, but a free thinker that means they still do not know which religion to believe in.
The last sentence of your is actually for satanism, who believe 100% that satan is their God, and they really hate God so much. they practice weird rituals and sell them selves for some orgies for a cheap price. they practice a totally different set of practices than available religions and 100% opposite of christianity.
For more information, you can email me. i am more than happy to discuss with you more.

sure have. my husbands an atheist. i grew up in a household where we went to church every sunday (and so did he) and were very involved in the church. i met my husband and couldn't love him any more than i do now. though i dont go to church anymore (b/c a lot of people who go to church these days are complete assholes and are only there for the social benefit of it). I do still beleive in god and the idea of heaven and hell...just not in the same "christian" view as everyone else. so to answer your question...of course you have a tail and horns(j/k)...and who doesn't sacrifice small animals to the midnight moon...just the other night i sacrificed a rabbit with my '93 chevy...

I'm a Witch and my boyf is Atheist. Ironically, he has gotten that 'your too nice to be an Atheist' from a Christian! What he chooses to believe, or rather, not believe is his choice.
