We do this for many different reasons. I know there are those of you who do not take in account the old testament at all, but this is where I am gonna take this from...all through psalms it tells us to glorify him with our voices, and instruments! Psalms 149:3 Let them praise His name with the dance;
Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

And then there is also the fact that we are just so excited about what the Lord is doing in our lives and in our spirit we just find it so hard to sit there in our chairs feeling bored and checking our watches. Our services don't have a set time we end, because we let the spirit of the Lord take hold and we do what He wants..not what we want.

I think it's a form of organized group hysteria. I've been to a pentacostal service just to see what it was like first hand. It was obvious they were pulling every psychological trick in the book to get people to do this crazy stuff.

It creates a large amount of hysteric energy, which can then be experienced as a spiritual presence to nearly anyone who comes in. I use the same technique to raise energy for magic rituals at times.
