He got a $30,000 bonus(before taxes lol) when he joined the army, that will be spread out over four years. We are supposed to get around $7000 the first time. He is to report to his first duty station on November 29, and gets to be on leave from Oct. 24th(graduates from AIT) until he has to go to washington at the end of Nov. (yay for me!). But he said that they won't even process the bonus until he gets to his duty station and signs papers. What I'm wondering is, how long will it take before that money is in our bank account? Because we need it before our seven month old daughter and I will be able to drive to join him in Fort Lewis! Do you know from experience about how long it takes? I want to be with him before Christmas!!!! :(

One of the reasons he has so much leave is because he is doing hometown recruiting while he's back. Another is because his papers said he does not have to report to Ft. Lewis until November 29th (I am assuming due to thanksgiving or it would have been earlier?).

The previous answers are guesses... once he reports, he fills out the paperwork, and they make and entry into his electronic pay file.... should show up in the next paycheck - autodeposit into your acct.
Now... you said he is taking leave from 24 oct to end of nov... BAD IDEA!!! He hasn't earned that much leave yet!!! and he will have a negative leave balance for a LONG TIME to come!!! Better for him to sacrifice the leave now, don't go in the hole, go ahead to WASH and get the paperwork in... then you can travel sooner!

he would be MUCH better off reporting to his duty station within a couple of weeks after graduating AIT. First off, he doesn't have that much leave accrued, which means he would not be able to take any vacation time at all until he is no longer in the red, and you only earn 30 days a year.
Plus, the sooner he reports, the sooner he can put in the papwerwork for his bonus payout, and the sooner he can arrange to have your household goods packed up and shipped out there. While the military does not pay for plane tickets for family members to relocate while CONUS, you would ge reimbursement for driving there..a set price per day to cover meals and lodging, plus a paltry 17 cents per mile for gas.
the paperwork for his bonus must be in by a certain date before it will appear in the next paycheck, and if he misses that date, it will be shunted forward to the next pay period two weeks later.

the army will pay to move you and the baby to ft lewis, wa. they will also move all of your stuff there to...once he has housing set up. they will give him TDY days to come back and help move his family.
as for the bonus...he cant file the paper work w/S1 until he gets to his duty station and is signed in there. then it could take a while...
my husband filed his bonus in Sep. 04 and we got it in Feb 05 and we had to do the paper work 4 times. my brother just got to ft. drum...and is still fighting to get his bonus. he has had to redo the paper work twice already....it is a big hassle.
when he gets to his duty station make sure he goes to the S1 office and gets it all started asap.
*added* if he did hometown recruiting then he will and work w/the recruiter. they will not let him leave..he will be signed in to the recruiter station for that time. i would not expect to get your bonus until the end of the year/beginning of next year ..esp if his whole unit is going to that base..

definitely i understand what passed off . . . The payroll software utilized to technique the bonus calculated his tax fee as though $25,000.00 replaced into his prevalent pay and not an advantage. case in point, in the experience that your husband is paid $a million,000.00 a week, for a grand entire of $fifty two,000 each year , the computing device reads the bonus as a longtime pay of $26,000.00 a week - consequently upping his tax bracket. whilst in fact his annual pay isn't $seventy 8,000.00. in case you are able to wait, you will get the money decrease back on your taxes. this is quicker than dealing which comprise your payroll branch. I used to artwork for a business enterprise that processed comparable bonuses and that i might continuously have to hand calculate the bonuses on account which you are able to not manage the computing device equipment for "one time purely" bonuses.

Most of the bonuses are not given out until the beginning of the year. I would not count on it before January. The military should provide for your travel with PSC orders (or whatever they are called in the army). Your husband needs to ask someone about this!

Are you actually married? because the military will take care the costs for a PCS for soldier and family, unless you arent legally married or something.... or maybe you are waiting for the money for something else? Dont rely toomuch on that money it may or may not come and after taxes who knows how much it will boil down to.

Why do you need the bonus to join him?don`t they pay for you and your baby to join him at his duty station?
They pay for your plane ticket to get there.
If he has to he can get a interest free loan from the military and pay that back when his bonus comes in.......why wait to join ur husband ???

Expect it to take about a month. Bonus pay is not a priority for DFAS, so that is what you can normally expect.
