I've had problems with cutting for almost 10 years, but i havent done it in nearly two, however the urge never goes away. Will it some day not be so frustrating, or am I to deal with it for ever?

Well people that cut do it because it´s a way of discharging there repressed emtions, so try and get some help so you can stop repressing your emotions and expressing them in a right way. The cutting problem is associated with the obsessive compulsive disorder, you obsess abou cutting and the compulsion comes when you actually do it so try to go to a therapist for help. Good Luck.

You will have to deal with "issues" all of the time, but things should improve with treatment.

I know a young woman (15) who has been in an inpatient facility for almost a year. She is improving and has dealt with some things that had not been dealt with before. She should be home soon and I hope she can fight the urge from now on.

The following doesn't sound like great advice, but it was the best I have ever received: Deal with your stuff before it deals with you.

I hope you get some type of treatment and help for this sweetie. I have talked personally to a few cutters. They are intelligent, friendly and seem to have it all together. I know how much they must be hurting inside though. Good luck to you. I will pray for you (even if you don't believe, I will still pray).

there will always be times when you want to cut yourself, but it's not so much about that but how you deal with problems in a positive way. By learning to not turn to self distructive behaviours to deal with problems you'll find that the frustration will subside. You need to find strength in yourself. To be able to recognise times of high stress, then take steps to understand the underlying issues and then recognise that you are in control and not the disorder.

You'll be fine, honestly, it's just about learning healthy ways to live,

good luck

Don't know much about SI, but stumbled on this website for support groups. You might want to take a look.

It is like any addiction. People who are alcoholics but don't drink do not say they are former alcoholics, they say they are recovering alcoholics. You are a recovering self injurer. Keep coming back.
