Because we have free will.
I believe in God but I only do that because I have been taught the faith of my parents... and their parents and on and on. We each have free will to believe in God or not.
When I was younger I had my doubts, but then I look at all of the people that believe as my family does and I see bright, articulate, prosperous, intelligent people. I see community leaders, teachers, professors, and people that I would one day like to emulate with the same faith I have. They all can't be wrong; can they?
I choose faith and I don't need clear evidence that God is here. However I do get that evidence you seek when He answers my prayers.
I'm no bible thumper, and I'm old enough to make my own decisions so I have decided to believe in God. If I'm wrong what harm is there, if I'm right how wonderful it is.

He doesn't reveal Himself in an obvious fashion so that each of us can freely choose whether to believe and follow good. Even the most dyed-in-the-wool atheist would believe if God made His presence known in an obvious way. That's why God holds back - to test whether we would still believe thru this lack of evidence and follow His dictates by choice rather than by being beaten over the head with a sledgehammer and forced to follow Him like a mindless robot.

What would you accept as `clear evidence`? You already have the wonders of the created universe and the historical evidence of the resurrection. Jesus said `If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.`

I can handle believing in Him on faith, but I must admit that I've often wondered why, long ago, He seemed to be ubiquitous and peripatetic, micromanaging all over the place -- eat this, don't eat that, go to war with these people, leave those people alone, do this, don't do that. Talking to Adam, talking to Noah, talking to Abraham, talking to Moses, talking to Jesus, coaxing, demanding, cajoling, warning, and so on. Sometimes it seemed as if He'd never be quiet. Then, all of a sudden, He clammed up and was never heard from again. I'm not complaining, but I am curious.
Maybe He's testing us to see if we really can accept His existence and the validity of His commandments completely on faith. If we can, perhaps we deserve more credit than those figures in antiquity who were able to pass the presumably much easier test of accepting His existence only after seeing or hearing, directly from Him, tangible proof of it.

Essentially...HE has...but most are not listening.
Romans 1:
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Also in Luke 16 we are told that the rich man that was in hell asked that someone would tell his family so they would not go to hell and he was told "If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."
We have ALL we need to believe and trust in GOD...any that chose not to do so are...WITHOUT EXCUSE!

Excellent question. Here’s just one important reason. If He did, you would not pass the big exam at the end of your life. Why you ask? Because spiritually and consciously you would have not chosen freely to do what’s right based on your own heart. You would have always guided yourself under fear having that certain evidence of God's existence. For professional advice let me recommend to you a few URLs

Are you kidding? There is "clear evidence" all around you! Read Acts chapter 1 and 2 if you are interested in something more. Nothing has changed since then!

He is everywhere. God is all around us. To feel the presence of God all we need is FAITH. Believing for the things you have not seen by feeling it in our hearts. Our life is a clear evidence that God is real.

The clear evidence is given to us in our souls, the prof is in the beauty around you, if you have doubts then you have closed you eyes and opened them to a world of darkness..
The eyes are the windows to our souls...
