Yes, tires will loose pressure even when they have not been ridden. Some may loose a pound a day. The material that is used to make the inner tubes are porous-very minutely, but porous still the same. Some tubes loose air faster than others. If you ride a road bike and use any of the very lightweight tubes, they will loose air faster than the thicker tubes you find on cruiser style bikes.

Tire tubes naturally lose air. I solve this by switching to self-sealing tubes(Pre slimed) this doesn't stop the problem but will slow it down. That's why most riders use a air pump before each ride make sure they have the required air psi to the max. Tubes will leak out eventually over time and it happens most over winter. That's why I bring the bike in the house during winter because it's nice and dry.

I think leakage through valve is the main reason for tire loosing pressure when the bike is not ridden for a long time. If you are using WOOD valve (Dunlop valve) then there is a high possibility of this happening. I haven’t noticed this with shrader and presta valves.

Bike tires are porous; some air will leak out through microscopic holes. That does necessarily mean that they won't hold air. If you have not ridden in a while, it means you may not have checked it in a while, either. Look for thorns/glass, pump it up, and go!

Yeah mine usually does but i always check everything again before I go mountain biking. If it goes to soft there could be a puncher. You might wanna check that out.
