Life begins at conception? No it can't. Because to forcibly take away a group of peoples ability to concieve is considered genocide, so therefore, life begins before conception?

It all depends on who's opinion you want to go with.
Some would say, as you stated, that life begins before conception. But what if there was no plan to create life? What if it was simply an accident? Accidents happen and some are fixable; accidental pregnancy (through carelessness of the parents or rape) is fixable through abortion.
Others say it begins at conception. Again... accident, fixable. The new life has yet to gain a heartbeat or brain activity. That's the argument.
So, heartbeat and/or brain activity. I'm not sure when this occurs, though I'm assuming before the third trimester. Yet something can still happen (unhealthy mother, tangled umbilical cord, etc) to cause the fetus to die and it's listed as a still birth, not really a life because it never drew breath. Hmmm...
First breath. The fetus is now a baby. Its squacking and crying and all that. Once out of the womb, should the child die from anything, it will be considered either murder (in violent death) or an unfortunate loss (death by sickness, etc).
I don't know where life begins. I'm willing to follow the laws set out before us. Abortion is a choice for everyone up to the third trimester. Still birth are a possibility, but usually not a case of choice on the mother's part. Anything that hurts a newborn baby should be loathed whether it is a person, a disease, or a drunk who slammed into the car bringing the baby home from the hospital.

It doesn't matter. What matters is stopping the CAUSE of abortions. Make a minimum wage that is a living wage, and provide Universal Health Care for all Americans. If people have health care, and all of this stuff is out in the open, abortions will not happen. Occasionally maybe, but you will see much less of it when the Religious Right stops preaching abstinence and no birth control and starts working to provide birth control and health care in general to everyone!

Making abortion illegal is like making alcohol illegal...it doesn't work and just causes misery and death for many many people. If we would take care of eachother, there would be less alcoholism, abortion, child molestation, etc. Get rid of the stigmata against mental health, and provide itfor everyone! Provide hope by making it possible for anyone working full time to make a decent living, and the crime rates will drop.

Stop trying to legislate morality, and instead focus on curing society's ills by finding the problem instead of treating the symptoms with violence! It's like we criminalize the symptoms while we spread the disease! (thank you Ani DiFranco for that awesome line!)

Most drug addicts that get to the stage of causing problems were abused as children. Let's put more effort into stopping domestic violence. Gays aren't hurting anyone. You cannot make someone gay. They are or they aren't. So don't worry about it. Abortions are caused by poverty and the taboo placed on sex. So let's get rid of the poverty and the taboo, and the abortions will virtually disappear. Solutions, people, not reactions.

If you paid attention in Life Science 101 you would know that the life of an individual organism in any sexually reproducing species begins precisely at the moment of fertilization. At that exact moment a new individial frog/cat/elephant/whale/human being has come into existence, is alive and growing, a new individial with an individual genetic code different from that of his/her parents, in fact different from any other individual of the species who has ever lived (except for an identical twin). If the individual is human as opposed to some other species, and murder is the willful and avoidable destruction of human life, then the answer to your question should be self-evident.

This is a good question cause I wondered the same thing. The Bible says in Leviticus 17:14 that blood is the life of all flesh, and Scietifically speaking blood starts to flow through the baby about 18 to 21 days after conception.

right! and the argument that a life form that cannot support itself outside the womb is not a life would also mean that the elderly, retarded and children up to the ages of 9 or 10 should also be legal candidates for abortion.
So if you follow through with the logic of pro choicer, then we can see how insane they really are!

But in reality, if a person wants to decide to have an abortion, then they must be prepared for the psychological damage they may create for themselves.
If people were to address the problem at the source:unwanted pregnancy, then the issue of abortion, which is secondary, would no longer be an issue.
Yet that would require humans to actually think about their actions. And historically, people are in denial about the abundant proof that to avoid pregnancy, they need to take precautions.

Life begins at the (i assume you speak only of homosapiens?) first breath a child draws upon being separated from its mothers womb. Before that it may be alive but its just a parasite....
Let the backlash begin...
Taking away a races/stereotyped groups ability to reproduce would have to be done completely (castrate all the males?) to be considered genocide. And it is different because it is not their choice to stop reproducing, it is someone elses decision, and I think the comparison is irrelevant.

Life begins at conception - taking away the ability is not taking away a life - that is nonsense - no life has begun.
We have nuclear bombs but we have not used them so... does that mean we have nuclear annihilation? It hasn't ocurred, nor has the conception.
Taking steps to avoid the beginning of a life is a personal choice and one of responsibility - and not out of line with belief in God.

Life begins BEFORE conception. Why do you not consider it murder to destroy sperms and eggs too then?
