I'm curious about what it might be that I am abusing. I don't beat or neglect my kids, I don't use drugs, and I don't drink.

I'm missing something here. What am I (and fellow atheists) abusing??

Shane....how is this an abuse of free will? Anyone??

Derek K...well I don't do any of that, lol!

Can ANYONE tell me why they feel my atheism is abusive, because I am clueless here.

Ken....Nope. My kids know they are allowed to attend church anytime they wish. And they have.

Small but Fierce....provide for me an example of when I personally have persecuted you, and I will give you an apology.

Babygurl....you served up that humble pie nicely. Good job.

bluebootz....a requirement for atheism is a very thick skin. At least in this forum. Be certain of your decision, do nothing rash.

farack....and what is the truth??? Your truth differs from mine, so therefore could you also not be abusing MY truth?

Debra N...Taking him seriously?? Lol, no, just trying to get some real answers instead of a lot of nonsense.

rlrose63....thank you for an excellent answer.

Vij...of course I didn't take it personally. But not ONE Christian tried to explain this to me, and I really don't know what he meant for certain. He didn't answer my question.

Spooky,I believe that you know exactly what this person meant and its nothing deep about it. There is a lot of abuse going on in this section. Their statement was valid. I'm very sure that you are not clueless nor taken this personally.

Please Spooky, you of all people shouldn't need an example of abuse? You've been here on the forum long enough to hear it tossed about like Hershey's kisses at Halloween! (;p) Surely no one has acused you personally of abuse have they? Well, if they have, I'm sure it's ridiculous... As for not abusing or neglecting your kids, using drugs or drinking...whatever DO you do for amusement?..... besides you know better than to take anyone here too seriously, don't you?

Hoping the best for you always...

What an excellent question! The religious believe we are abusing our own lives by not believing in god... that if we don't believe, we will surely perish after death. Or we are abusing their right to convert every living, breathing soul to their belief system (sounds a little like Islam these days, doesn't it?). They certainly believe we've abused their right to post the 10 commandments in public places and say public prayers in every school... so we've abused their free speech (but they can't see that they're abusing OURS by demanding they follow the law).

They are told by their bible that they'll be persecuted so they are ensuring they are persecuted. To me, though... they're all little boys crying wolf. It's all in their head and they're laughing at us when we come running for no reason.

I love the answer that asks if not taking our children to church to learn about god is neglectful. LOL! Very funny. We have talked to our son all the time about god... and we've read the bible... and lo and behold, he had all the same questions we had as kids. But we didn't tell him to just have faith because that is a cop-out answer to a curious child. That's the "I don't have the answer so just believe in the invisible man in the sky... if we doubt him, we'll burn for eternity, so be afraid" answer. I don't raise my son to fear things he can't see, I raise him to be strong, self-sufficient, and intelligent.

I just answered a question and stated that Atheism was a possible choice for me in the future.

This question, has me re-thinking everything once again. I will maintain my Deism for one more day. (perfection in deeds and words....does not make anyone the Highest of all Powers). There are excellent reasons for Atheism...but that is not one of them.

I am not religious....nor do I consider myself an abuser.

Peace to everyone.

It could mean that people who don't believe in religion r not using their minds.

So I guess, that is abuse of ur mind/brain????

Apparently that person feels harmed in some way by the presence of atheists in what he deems as his territory. He needs to reacquaint himself with the true title of this category. Religion & Spirituality. If you don't have religion, you still can be spiritual and high-minded.

Abuse of religion is crashing planes into buildings, killing gay people, and committing suicide in the name of your religion. I'm against homosexuality, but killing them is going a little far! THat's what I've gotta say.

You are abusing what they perceive to be their "god-given" right to demand you adjust your life to satisfy their sense of morality.
