Your credit report shows the lines of credit that you have, and the aging history of those lines. So if you keep the balance at zero, you are keeping the account in good standing, and building your credit history. Credit cards make the most money when you max your card, then make minimum payments. These customers are known as revolvers. This has nothing to do with your credit history, however. In fact, if you have several maxxed cards, even if you keep your payments regular, you may be denied further credit because your ability to pay may be not enough to cover the total credit outstanding. The other way credit cards make money is by charging the retailers a small percentage amount on each transaction. Thefore people who use their credit cards a lot, but always pay them off, are still good money for the credit card companies, but only on the front end purchase, not on revolving interest. The main thing that will enable you to get more credit is time. The main thing is to keep your cards current, and never pay late. Not even once! Use them or dont, just dont ever be late, or miss a payment. If you decide to not use them, you should use them a little, every few months, just to keep some regular activity on the account. For example, put things that you have to buy no matter what on the card, then pay it off right away. Also each time you apply for credit, it goes on your records and every other creditor can see it. It also lowers your overall rating. So if you have OK credit, and you apply for 20 cards in a row, you will damage your rating. Ratings and records are generally in effect by law for seven years. There are scam companies who buy old debt and then file false fraudulent reports to bump up the date after 7 years, this is illegal but very common. You need to sue when this happens. Writing complaint letters will not usually help much. In todays digital age there is no room for your explanation letter with any report, so no matter what happened, you are guilty until proven innocent. Also anything you put in a letter to the credit reporting agencies will be used against you to the fullest extent of the law and sometimes further, and also will be shared with other agencies. beware, they are not your friends. Learn your rights and don't be bullied by creditors or credit reporting agencies! People who charge you a hefy fee to counsel you and all they do is tell you "cut up your cards and go bankrupt" are ripping you off and insulting your intelligence. Having said that there are a lot of people that cannot handle credit in any way no matter what they do. Usually this happens out of simple innocent ignorance and by listening to sales people and tv commercials. Knowledge is power. Good luck!

You will not build credit if you dont use the card, use your card for your normal everyday purchase such as food or gas for your car...When you receive your statement from the card company, make sure you pay the card on time, if you go over 15 days, they will charge you a late fee, if you go over 30 days it will be a negative mark on your credit report, now that you have got started with credit, be careful not to abuse the card, that is how people get into trouble with credit.

You need to purchase something. Even if it is something small. Every few months purchase something small, think gifts for birthdays or christmas. You will establish your credit when you have shown that you can pay off your bill with no issues. Just remember to not get in over your head.
