It's actually a very expensive process. The hardest part about getting a working visa is not the US but Mexico. They make people jump through hoops just to get the proper documentation needed. Naturally since it is the Mexican government you are dealing with bribes are needed to push things along. Also If I recall correctly they need to have a certain amount of money in the bank, own a business or own a certain amount fo property to even be considered. With these restrictions you pretty much kill off 90% of the applicants before they even get a chance to ask for legal immigration into the US.
Actionromance, what you posted it getting citizenship, not becoming a legal immigrant. The citizenship part is cake compared to the rest of the documentation needed to get to that part.

Applying for legal immigration...
El Indio, everything an illegal alien does while in the USA illegally is a crime... a continuation of the crime of illegally entering the USA.... all an illegal alien can be while in the USA illegally, is a CRIMINAL... a criminal engaged in an ongoing criminal act.... the only way to change that FACT is to GET the HELL OUT and STAY OUT or apply to come here legally.... We don't want illegal aliens/criminals in the United States.... ILLEGAL ALIENS are TRASHING and DESTROYING the USA....

I know a lady who is Canadian, and married to a member of the US military (US citizen).
She can't get a permanant status (green card) after 3 years of trying. No criminal record, no extra circumstances. And, she's from Canada, not some hostile country.
The US Immigrations people (ICE) are horrible. They can't keep illegals out, nor can the process those who want to be legal in a reasonable amount of time. The system is worse than it was before 9-11, and that's saying a lot.

I'm engaged to a Englishman born and raised straight up, a British citizen. Our government has put us through hell, trying to get him into the States legally. Immigration is nothing but a dumbass game. They will do ANYTHING, to stall the process and refuse admittance in to the States. We've been trying to get him over here for 2 freakin years. **It's ridiculous!!! It's no wonder people have to sneak into this country. I really hate people sneaking into our country, but now i'm understanding it more and more.

They have to go through the immigration process to obtain permanent residency. It is very expensive and can be quite difficult to obtain legal status. You can't just come to the U.S. and become a citizen. You actually are suppose to "earn" your citizenship, usually as a scholar, or a unique talent. I think I've heard of hockey players that have been approved, but I don't think someone will make it as a dishwasher or manual laborer. Hope this helps.

i think they have to go through a process of taking classes to learn about american systems, and then they have to sign a lot of forms and stuff. i'm a legal alien, but my parents are american by birth and i was 4 when i became a legal citizen, so i didn't have to do the classes or antyhing. but my mom had to sign a lot of forms and i had to answer lots of questions like "do you like ice cream?" and "do you like mcdonald's?"

Yes, it is very difficult, almost impossible to come to the United States legally, especially from Mexico, even just to visit.
I have friends in Mexico who have tried numerous times to come visit me. Even though they can prove they will return to Mexico (with plane tickets, college tuition already paid in Mexico, etc.) they are denied entry.
In order to get papers to come here legally, they have to go to Mexico City IN PERSON (very expensive for many) fill out lots of forms, pay large sums of money, then go home and wait months.
If they are rejected, which most are, they do not get their money back. If they miss something on the paperwork or have to answer more questions, they have to go back to Mexico City in person and pay more money. Keep in mind that in Mexico City, you can only drive 3 days per week based on your license plate number. And most people can't afford to pay the fees AND miss work in order to apply for papers, especially more than once.
The frustrating part is: Mexico says the US is denying entry, while the US says the Mexican government is denying entry.
Add to all this the corruption of the Mexican government, and how many of the fees paid likely go into the pockets of the government employees.
If it were easier to come here legally, on a temporary basis, I believe many of our "illegal" problems would be solved.

Basically, you fill out forms, take a test (in English) and so on. You have to be lawful and renounce all claims of allegiance to your old country. I heard you can become a citizen real easily by joining the U.S. army.

DESPERATION is one reason and cost. United States is not the only country illegals come in through. They come through Canada, Puerto Rico and Europe. They come here to make a better life and not to commit crimes. As in all societies, there is the good, the bad and the ugly.

This is a great question....
Its nearly impossible....These are the basic requirements, in a nutshell...You could come here if you have oodles of money in a bank account, only to invest in US, or a gifted athelete, or a rocket scientist, or marrying a citizen....Apart from those requirements, its impossible....
