Hi
Please be patient. ADHD is difficult to handle ,but with patience and proper medication your daughter will be easier to manage.
If you haven't adjusted her diet, Please do so. She needs to be eating healthy foods,NO junk food(no candy, cookies, chips, pop or chocolate)check labels for MSG,sodium benzoate and food dyes which can make ADHD children more difficult to control.
Fresh whole foods are best (whole wheat bread, vegetables, fruits and lean meat.) ADHD children are negative, lie and have behaviour problems, but you must understand it is NOT her fault, it is the disorder.
Please read all you can on the disorder to better educate yourself and to help you to cope.
You may want to ask the paediatrician about another disorder called Asperger syndrome, your daughter may have this not ADHD,both are treatable.

If you believe in God, then one of the first things you may want to do is to pray for patience and understanding. The reason your child has ADHD is not her fault, or yours. From research that has been done concerning the disorder, there is overwhelming evidence that the disorder is genetic. If you do not have it, then perhaps her father has it to a degree, or vice versa. I am wondering if the negativity and lies, as well as the behavior she is exhibiting, are a side effect of the medication. My son lies, and he was diagnosed with the disorder in February, and I am not completely sure he even realizes it. He is also very forgetful, and will say something, and a few minutes later swears that he did not say it.

Speak to your doctor about the medication, or do some online research about the medicine to see what the side effects are, if you have not done so already. My wife and I were looking into more natural remedies to the disorder instead of subjecting our son to the pharmaceuticals. He was on Strattera, and he was having thoughts of death, which scared the hell out of us, so we took him off.

Don't despair, and don't feel it's your fault.

The ADHD may not be to blame for the lies and negativity. Kids that age are just starting to push the limits hard to see what they can get away with. My best suggestion would be to first review the med with her Dr. Maybe it would be better for to be on the meds all the time to help her stay in control. try talking to her about her behavior. 6 1/2 is old enough to understand what behavior is appropriate most of the time as well as lying is never tolerated. if that isn't what you want, see a therapist about some behavior modification counseling. if you can't handle her behavior others probably can't either. eventually her peers will push her away and she will have more trouble socially. it would be best to fix it before it effects her self esteem. Start now..

You don't say if you have other kids. If you do, this goes double. Take some parenting classes. Not because you're a bad parent, because I'm sure you're not. Kids with ADHD (or other behavior disorders) take special skills to deal with. Without those skills, you will find yourself feeling quite out of control yourself.

Also, be sure to ask for help and take time for yourself (and your sig. other) to relax away from your daughter.

You may also find having a very structured routine is beneficial for her. My 8 yo (originally dx'd ADHD) really benefitted from a structured routine. He needs to get up at the same time everyday, eat at about the same time, etc. Helps keep him sane.

Talk to her ped about additional resources to help you cope and don't be afraid to make dietary changes in ADDITION to the medication. Eliminating sugar and a lot of processed foods did help my son tremendously!

Hard to say exactly, but you and your daughter should be seeing a counselor. It seems that so many doctors are ready to give out the drugs, but they seem to forget that there is also a need for parents to learn to cope and children that need to understand how ADHD effects them. Talk to your doctor or get counseling. I have 4 boys, 2 are ADHD. I had to deal with them both differently. Best of luck.

I'm so sorry for your child. I hope something can be done to help the situation for her sake. How awful. I will pray for her and you so that you will know what to do. I know what it's like to be on medications that are no good for you, I've dispensed them and I've taken them as well. My life is useless and it doesn't matter any more but for a child, oh how sad...........

ADHD meds make children want to kill themselves. If you can't deal with her negativity, maybe you should give her to parents that will love her instead of medicating her until she can't stand to be alive anymore. You make me sick. You're an awful parent. Get some counselling.

My son is adhd and extremely intelligent, to intelligent for my own good. I just have to keep reminding myself that when he does something bizarre that he can't help himself. Try to cuddle with her as much as possible. My son is almost 12 but he still loves to sit beside me and have me rub his feet or back etc..This seems to soothe him and calm him down sometimes.

Just remind yourself that she can't help it..take deep cleansing breaths and walk away if you have to....if it gets to be too much...just remove yourself from the situation for a moment and calm yourself...get her involved in some activities...basically tire her butt out ......good luck!!
