It totally drives me nuts that someone can be on welfare making more than people on minimum wage. When I worked in the hospital we had 12 or 14 year old girls come in pregnant and we'd ask them, "what do you plan on doing with the baby? how will you support it" and they'd say, "I'll just do what my mama does, walk to the mailbox and collect my welfare check". It made me so mad and disgusted. I think that people lose their pride and ultimately any work ethic when they get welfare. It is the job of charities and communities to make sure that the starving and good people are taken care of. I also knew of a family in Ohio, where the parents would collect the welfare checks and use the money for drugs. Our government should stop spending so much money on creating their own problems i.e. a society that feels entitled and doesn't want to work for anything. The burden of dealing with the poor should fall on charities.

Welfare isn't ALWAYS a horrible thing.
My best friend's mom worked three jobs while her children were in school. Her ex-husband was a complete dead beat who never paid child support (all his money went to drugs). None of the children were born out of wedlock; the parents divorced YEARS later when dear old daddy became an abusive, alchoholic drug addict. However, when my best friend was in tenth grade (she was the eldest), her mother became ill and could not work. The family was on welfare for all of about four months, until Maggie could get back on her feet and resume working.
THAT is what welfare should be used for. I have no problem with people using it in those situations, or if they are suddenly incapacitated. However, yes, I am completely against people who have 7 kids on it. I think if you are on welfare, there should be a cap to it, and if you get knocked up while on it, that should be the end of your benefits. I know it sounds harsh, but, hey, just keep your legs together.
At the same time, welfare needs to be reformed so that it's not more lucrative to stay on welfare than to work. Perhaps people should be granted the difference in what they make (if they make 200/wk working fulltime minimum wage, pay the difference up to their welfare benefits), or there should be welfare payments for child care *if* you are working full-time. I don't have the details worked out, but I'd be a lot less loathe to help someone if they were at least *trying* to make a better life for themselves and their children.

Okay, have you EVER been down on your luck or were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth? It sounds like you have never had to work to get where you are. You know what, there are people out there who fall on hard times and need a little help getting back on their feet. I suppose you would've opposed FDR's New Deal during the Great Depression (because that's when our current welfare system) BTW, how do you define "welfare"? Is it asking the government to help them with insurance for their children because the insurance that is availible to them through work costs more than they can afford to lose out of their paychecks. I'm sorry honey but not everyone's spouse makes six figures. It happens. I dare you to live how the other half lives without govenment resources. You wouldn't last a day. BTW, there is such a thing as free internet at the library. Freakin' clueless asshole.
Did ever occur to you that maybe women are on welfare to go to school and get off welfare? You act like it's a bad things. It's bad to take advantage of it. I see that a lot. I work my *** off and STILL can't afford everything we need for my baby girl. (I'm married btw. He's away at bootcamp) I wish I could afford to get off welfare but right now it pays for my little girl to get doctor's checkups. That's the most important thing. I'll live in a box but everything else goes to my little girl and making sure she's taken care of.

Actually, the biggest abusers of welfare (government assistance funded by taxpayer dollars) are congressmen, senators, Republicans and other white collar vermin who know how to manipulate the system. Their abuse is on a much larger scale and therefore, much more detrimental than the stereotypical "welfare ho."

I do get medicaid for my kids, however how do you know these mothers might be on someone elses computer. How do you know that maybe they were working before and bought a computer and have had a short fall. Not saying people don't buck the system but some have legitimate reasons for needing it.and internet only costs at least 9.00 a month.lots of circumstances arises, who are you to judge, you may very well have to be on it one day.bet you'll still own your computer and still have internet.

Possibly a mother (whose "baby's daddy" decided the kid wasn't his) who is on welfare but she is using the internet in the library of the college learning psychology, healthcare, etc. so she can apply for a job in social services for the sole purpose of laughing at while approving your welfare application.

Hi there and could you please be careful, as there are some mothers who did not choose to be on welfare, but due to circumstances they had too. With me lovely lady it was the death of my third child and the father of the child walking out on me and the other living 2 children as he could not handle it anymore. Im surviving and managing on welfare.

I'm not on welfare. The more kids you have the more welfare you will get. Many parents who collect welfare get money under the table (partner living with them for example and not declaring that income) and many don't use that money for their kids. So with that said, I can see how they can afford the internet.

I do understand where you're coming from. After my mother got a divorce she worked every single day to get food on the table. We did have food stamps though to help because she couldn't do everything on her own.

I am a mother of 2 and work full time. Everything I have I bought myself, no help from the government. I want to keep it that way.
