Why would God give women breasts? Are they to tempt men? Aren't they really just ornaments to attract a mate like peacock feathers are? Human breasts just don't make sense to me in the context of Christianity.

Don't have an answer Esther?

People call it a stupid question, but they give no reasons why it's stupid. If you believe in the Bible, God had to have a reason for giving women breasts when no other animals have them. Evolution just makes a lot more sense.

Because women are the only female animals that are red hot SEXY. Hee hee.....

Yeah, it's all about evolution. I just love how Christians dance around the subject and call you names. Next time ask them why men have nipples at all. Watch them dance... DANCE!

See, there was this garden once called Eden. The first man and woman lived there. One day, God told them not to do something, but they did it anyway. Since the first woman did it first, then tricked the first man into doing it, God decided that woman would have certain afflictions forevermore, to remind women that God doesn't really like them.

For some reason, even though the man and woman didn't do something sexual to irritate God, He decided that all of womens afflictions he was cursing them with would revolve around reproduction. Although the story doesn't say it outright, carrying around a big pair of boobs would make man want to reproduce more, and Gods other curses, like pain during childbirth, could be manifest more often.

Read between the lines people...

Unlike most animals, human women are almost always biologically "in heat".

...but it could also be an evolutionary "trick" on men. If enlarged breasts came to indicate pregnancy to men, and so they stuck around to take care of a woman, then that woman would have an advantage and pass on her enlarged breast trait to the next generation more successfully than other women, until that became the dominant trait.

From this persepective, the enlarged breasts would actually be an indirect evolutionary result of our brain size, that requires continued post birth development, and is likely the reason humans are serially-monogomous.

I don't see what is wrong with them being simply a trait for attractiveness and expressing genetic feasability for child bearing.

did you know that they have done research, and found that a very specific body-shape ratio (bust/waist/hips measurements) was almost universally picked as the most favorable for a woman they would be interetsed in, by men, from modern high-tech-raised people, to un-civilized aboriginal jungle people... all picked mostly the same general shape.

the explanation being that there are genetically programmed reactions to physical traits, on certain functional effects from those traits, such as that in a setting without all the medical stuff to "help" a woman with the "ideal" hip width, would be most prone to being able to go through labor with the least complications, most consistently.
and I'd figure that medically women with "ideal" bust size, would be most prone to being able to breastfeed with appropriate volume and such without complication, ect.

its really quite an ingenious bit of subtle genetic memory of sorts.

in a simpler sense... probably the same reason healthy babys are so (practically) universally adorable, I mean if babys weren't so adorable, it'd be a lot harder to tolerate the issues involved in raising a kid...

and if sex didn't feel good, do you think people would do it more than 100% reproduction? and develop means of artificial insemination as soon as possible?

I agree with you most of the time. I am female and am quit SICK of this whole breast obsession. They sometimes make me sick. You have to wear a bra all the time, or they will flop, bounce when active. They are fat!! I do not get it.

Then the other side of me finds them very beautiful like a lot of men do.
