My roommate has ringworm and/or athletes foot and we use the same W/D and I fear getting it from him, esp. if I wash my clothes right after he does...
I do know what these conditions are, I have treated ringworm before. My roommate has these problems on his skin and does not care. I really don't care what he does about his skin I just don't want it on me, its ugly and takes a few weeks to get rid of. I do not share ANYTHING except rent with the kid. Also, I understand that washing in hot water would probably "kill" germs, but I wash in cold water most of the time and sometimes do not dry.

No. The heat from the dryer would kill both of them. They are 2 different things, you know.

Ringworm and athlete's foot are two different things. you cannot get athlete's foot from sharing a washer/dryer. You get athlete's foot can by touching the affected area of a person who has it. More commonly, you pick up the fungi by going barefoot in shared areas, such as swimming pools or locker rooms. The fungi then grow in the warm and moist environment of your footwear, especially if it is tight so that little air can move around your feet.

Ringworm is another type of fungal infection, and children are most likely to get ringworm. Ringworm of the scalp can spread from person to person when they share hats, combs, or brushes. Ringworm of the body can be spread on towels, clothing, or sports equipment. Personal hygiene is important in preventing the spread of ringworm. Dogs and cats can be infected with ringworm, too, and they can pass it to people through direct contact.

So, I do not think you can get ringworm from your washer/dryer but do not share towels or other personal hygine items with your roomate! And tell him/her to go see a doctor and get medicine!!

oh no u cant get ringworm/athletes foot, from sharing the w/d, the germs would be washed away with the hot water in the washer, and burnt to death in the drier.

No you cannot. Only if you use the same hair brush/comb and if you touch it without washing your hands.

Probably not, but even if you did, it's not a real big deal.
