http://plan3d.com/pages/homeChlgr.aspx?rd=1 is a good one, though it is not free, it is cost efficient compared to buy-able software. However it depends on what you want to do. For precise measurements and such, this is a good one. I find it difficult to use.

Though if you get the game The Sims, course to get the cool stuff you could need to have them all...But Plan3D seems to be what they used, just simplified. You can do so many tings with the Sims and there are many free downloads for customized objects to input into your home/room. Take a look at the site http://www.reflexsims.de/ They have awesome interior ideas. Though there are free sites like http://www.modthesims2.com/ However this is for use in the game. I enjoy the game but prefer making and designing the interiors for use in my own. You can take snap shots (pictures) you can save in your pic folder, print and take to your local store to get similar items. I got my kitchen designed after one I made in the game. It's surreal!

Other than that I can't help ya...sorry...

This site http://www.icovia.com/default.aspx has a "free" version you can use..the only thing is that you can't save your work..so you have to leave the page up until you're done.
Good luck.
