As many of you may of may not know... our dog is almost 16 years old. How much longer do you think he will be with us? My hubby and I crack jokes at him, but we do love the little booger.
He's very spry and spiffy, but is now deaf as a doornail and getting blinder by the minute. He's half lhasa and half yorkie. Cute little muttly.
We ponder over what we will do when he leaves us. But when it comes down to it, he's such a staple, we'll just all probably freak.

For Screwball...
"Spry and Spiffy" are meant to replace the words "happy and healthy". Sorry to go over your head there, dude.

Sigh. There's really no way of knowing this, and it's probably best that you don't know. Just try to enjoy whatever time you have left and make the most of of it. Spoil him rotten for all the years of love happiness that he gave you :-)

Good luck with your little doggy. I hope you have more time than you expect and give him kiss and hug from me.

There is no way to tell just how he will live but I am sure that the two of you will be devastated when his time comes to go to the happy hunting grounds. Just keep him on a good diet and plenty of exercise don't let him get to much weight on him this could cause hearth problem's. He may live 1 to 3 more years depending on his health and his life style. Give all the love you have enjoy being with him as long as you have him.Hope his around along time. When I was young my mother and dad had a Scottish Terrier named Blackie he lived to be 20 years old! Hope you're baby makes it that long! Happiness to the three of you while you are all together.

oh man, that's gotta be awesome to be with a dog for that long! i just lost my little toy poodle this summer very suddenly, and he was only 10 years old, and we just couldn't love him more!! my whole family is just totally torn up - i mean like...ripped apart now that he's not here!

for a small dog, give yourself a pat on the back because their life expectancy is around 14-16 years. it sounds like your dog has been living a wonderful life surrounded by people who love him! cherish having him around, because i hate to say it but he'll probably only be around for another 1-2 years.

Your dog in Doggie years is like 110 years old Great but since you know he wont live all that much longer and its going to be tough to lose hime now is the time to get yourself another dog, his death will still be painful but you will have a new dog to comfort you.

Dogs are really good at dealing with blindness if you don't move the furnishing. Deafness also shouldn't be a problem. my last dog was deaf and half blind for her last 10 yrs. she lived with me in the woods with no fences. Just love your fur baby.

awww that your baby is old!

My grandma just put her dog down, her dog was 14 year old, it was blind and was getting mean and one morning she could not talk, poor baby, we took her into the vet they said there were so many things wrong with her, that we need to put her down becuase she is in so much pain. :(

If your baby is still happy not in pain, it will have a good year left, just love him and be with him till the end...

What kind of a ridiculous question is that? If I, or anyone could predict the furute we would be sitting on a mountain in robes.

So, continue to treat him well, enjoy every moment you have with him, and cherish the memories. He will go eventually. Death is a part of life.

Of course u will freak and rightly so. Our pets become a real member of the family. Can't give any advice on losing him..................that day will really suck bad. I love my 2 rottweilers so much I think about what I will do when they leave me????????Cry my eyes out. They are my big old buddies and love me back as much as I love them. Loyal always. They admire us as much as we do them trust me.
