It's held in church because it's a binding approved by God.

She wears white because white is a sign of virginity. Divorcees and non-virgins (sluts) aren't supposed to wear white, but they do anyway.

Okay, we'll take the easy one 1st. It was a tradition for the bride to wear white to symbolize her purity(not to mourn a death as in the Chinese (?) tradition)~virgins wore/wear white. Nowadays, most brides wear white because that's what they want, but not all brides wear white. Some weddings are held in a church because it is considered a deeply religious ceremony, but as with the color of the dress, not all weddings are held in a church. We Americans also have a lil thing we do for "good luck" for the bride, in order to have "good luck" with her wedding & her marriage we say she should walk down the aisle with something old, something new, something borrowed & something blue. It doesn't need to be seen by everyone, it's just supposed to bring the bride "good luck". But it doesn't. The bride chooses her closest friends & family members(the amount of bridesmaids is pretty much limitless) to be her bridesmaids people who help her with the wedding plans, bridal showers (a party that is given to give the bride gifts for her wedding night or for her & her husband to use in their home). The bride chooses one girl in particular, to be her Maid or Matron (if the chosen girl is married) of Honor. This girl is someone the bride is most closest to emotionally, she is the one who plans the bridal shower (s), who helps the bride with any wedding plans that the bride needs help with, and is who the bride hands her bouquet of flowers to, to hold at the appropriate time during the wedding ceremony. She also may straighten the train of the brides dress if need be. There is sometimes also another party called a bachelorette party, where a male stripper may be at, there's always cakes & food present, the extravagance of it all depends on the finances involved. The groom-to-be does pretty much the same thing as the bride in regards to the wedding party only he has groomsmen & a Best Man. They don't usually have as many parties as the bride-to-be might, they usually just have a bachelor party which also usually involves a stripper as well & most time in both cases alcohol is usually prevalent. In some cases the bride & groom-to-be may have their parties together, but usually the girls have their parties, & the guys have their parties separate. I'm getting tired of writing, so if you need more info, if you can get access to American tv shows check out Bridezilla's , but keep in mind not all brides act as badly as the brides on the show.

American weddings take place in a variety of places churches being one of them. They happen in churches because of a religious association which someone has, like catholics get married in catholic churches.

Wearing white is symbolic of being a virgin, rarelky does this happen much any more but the tradition is there so people like to wear white on their wedding day.

Typically the wedding has the ceremony, the reception. Usually the ceremony will happen in a location, people will then run out and take pictures (unlike china where they go to a studio and take the pictures before the wedding) after some newlywed pictures they will go to the reception - dinner and dancing.

There are different formats since people in America like to have their own unique ceremony you can read about many different kindsa of wedding online by doing a seach like at weddings.com and so on.

Hope this helps.

In America there are two main types of weddings: civil (state-run) and religious. Civil weddings are officiated by a Justice of the Peace, government official, or designated person to. These can happen anywhere, but are normally in a government building (like city-hall) or in a private ceremony in a banquet hall or outdoors.

Religious weddings happen after you get a license from the state to get married and go through the procedures to prepare for marriage in your respected religion. These weddings can occur in a church (they must if you are catholic), a banquet hall, or outdoors. It is most common to have them in a church. Because it is a unification of two souls under God/the gods, and America is a very religious country, they want their start of their new life to happen where God is present. For some religions that is in the place of worship, in others it is wherever the people of faith gather. These weddings are officiated by a member of the clergy (priest, minister, rabbi...)

Each ceremony is different, but they normally involve some reading from the Bible/Torah and then a message/homily/sermon on what marriage means. Then the officiant asks if they wish to get married, if anyone has any reason why they can not get married (such as they are already married or they are not "pure"), and who is giving the women to be married. This is just ancient custom from when the bride and groom didn't already know each other so that the church could do their best to prevent fraud. Then the bride and groom normally exchange vows. Vows can differ based on religion, but normally go like this:
"I, ___, take you, ___, for my lawful wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part." (see more vows here: http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI91229141036&keywordID=146&keywordType=2&parentID=527
After the vows is the ring ceremony, where the bride and groom place rings on each other and say something along the lines of "With this ring, I bewed". Then the bride and groom kiss. After this the officiant announces them as husband and wife, but there is a catch. They are not married in most faiths until they consumate their marriage (have sex). That is why after the reception (a big party with cake, dancing, and dinner), the couple goes off on their honeymoon.

The bride normally wears white because it is tradition. A lot of people believe that it symbolizes purity, but few American brides are virgins and it really means that she is pure in her heart and ready to become a wife. Traditionally it is a long, modest dress with some beading or lace. The brides also wear a veil over their face to be lifted either by their fathers when they are given away or by their husband after the ceremony, depending on their religion.

The best way to learn about American weddings would be to watch a few movies. I would suggest "Runaway Bride", "The Wedding Planner", and "My Best Friend's Wedding". All will give you a picture of what different kinds of American weddings are like. Also, check out these websites:

i think of the brides mom and the husbands mom do various making plans. a minimum of thats the way it replaced into for me. My husband presented me a dowry. because it quite is the muslim guy that provides a dowry, no longer the female the way it is here interior the states. The dowry could be money, a vehicle, the present of coaching Al Quran, even if. You sign the marriage contract, the imam could say some words, it truly is it. The bride many times has a henna social gathering the evening formerly the marriage. After there's a huge reception. Islamic weddings are actually not that diverse from the weddings here. of direction, there heavily is not any garter removal!

The white dress is supposed to represent virginity and purity. Though in this day and age it's more tradition than a symbol of purity.

The wedding that takes place in a church is done there as a promise to God that you intend to stay together until death do you part. The Preacher will usually say something to the effect of, "Here before all of your friends, family, loved ones, and especially God, in God's house..."

The rings represent a never ending circle, cycle, marriage.

The party after ward is some times in a Hall not too far away, where everyone will commense to get drunk and dance until their feet are blistered.

American brides don't wear white because they're virgins. Prior to Queen Victoria's wedding in the 1800s, white wasn't even a usual color for a wedding dress (and it's always been in bad taste to speculate on the virtue of a bride). The queen's dress was white, and she was stunning on that day, and everybody just hopped on the bandwagon. Reasoning that bridal white was a sign of her virginity came about after wearing white became a custom.

Obviously it's an association that appeals to simple minded thinkers who presume a double standard regarding sexuality, and there was more of it back in those days than now. But there's another possible explanation that goes back to pagan times. The triune goddess--maiden, mother and crone--is represented by three colors: white, red and black. The maiden appears in white, and is "virgin"... but this does not mean she has not known a man, only that she is complete unto herself, answers to no one, makes her own decisions, and gives herself according to her own conscience. In fact, all the goddesses are virgin by that definition. A woman wishing to draw on herself the energy of the maiden goddess for her wedding (or handfasting, the pagan ritual that is a rough equivalent of marriage) might wear white for that reason. Of course, she could also easily wear one white garment, and have the rest of her ensemble represent other energies she wishes to draw.

But the real reason is the Queen Victoria one, and the prevailing double standard at the time.

most of our traditions come from the victorian era. the white dress is for purity if you are remarried youare supposed to wear off white. the veil is worn and it is lifted to make sure the bride is who it is supposed to be. rings are used the woman wears an engagment ring to symbolized her betrothal. the ceremony is based on a processional of the bridesmaids matched with groomsmen the groom waits for the bride at the front of the church (which is another victorian era tradition) the brid is walked in by the father and given away to her new husband. vows are said and the minister reads and talks about marriage then rings are exchanged and the bride and groom kiss and are introduced to the crowd as Mister and Misses [grooms last name].

most of the vows and the ceremony are from christian beliefs that basically a man and woman become one when they marry. then the friends and family throw rice or birdseed as the bride and groom leave for their honeymoon. which is actually a norse tradition involving honey mead and a womans cycle but all together there you have a basic outline of a traditional wedding

Not all American weddings happen in a church. They happen in synagogues, temples, town halls, the beach, even at restaurants. Brides don't always wear white, but the traditional white is to exemplify the purity of the occassion.

This question can't be answered the way you've asked it as you can see from the above. I suggest you reformulate your thesis. Don't want you to fail you know...

The wedding is held in a church because God created marraige between a woman and man. (no other combination works, it must be a man and a woman). Anyway the bride wears white showing that she is a virgin and has saved herself for her husband.(not really anymore, to many loose women around) anyway hope that helps.
