We have recently moved into a new home, which we are renting. There is a no pets rule, but as I understand under the Fair Housing Act, if someone has a doctors' note/prescription for a companion pet, then the landlord cannot evict you for having a pet inside. Right now, my cat is outside in a makeshift kennel with blankets inside and out, and food, water, and litter. But it is so cold!! And I miss him very much. Is there anywhere to find temporary housing for him until we get things worked out with Idaho Fair Housing?

From experience, keep her inside with you, when you know the landlord is coming put her outside or with someone who will watch her for a while. Keep anything that may tell your landlord you have a cat, put away and keep your house clean. Once your landlord leaves bring your furry friend back in the house and have a good laugh that your landlord has no idea. If you can work something out with your landlord as far as maybe giving him a little more damage deposit and that you'll be responsible for any of the damage may help too. Also if he sees that you keep your place clean he may allow it. My landlord let me keep mine because he knows that I will keep the place clean, I didn't have to pay anymore to keep my cat. Whatever your choice bring that cute kitty inside. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

As other answerers suggested, I'd just keep the cat in the house. I did the same thing for years. When the landlord came over I cleared out everything"cat related" & put the cat out in my car for the few minutes he was there. I never got caught. Good luck!

Bring your cat inside. Keep the litter box completely clean- as soon as he goes, then scoop. at 8 am and during business hours, put him, his litterbox, and food back outside. Then bring him inside after 5pm. Do this as long as necisarry and make sure you keep that box and all traces of him outside from 8am to 5pm.

I live in Idaho, and you will be able to work things out with the system. Chin up.

Bring the cat back inside, landlords cannot enter your property without a 24 hour notice unless it's an emergency. If your landlord pops by, say it belongs to a relative who is out of town for a couple days and you're catsitting, in case you're asked.

You can buy a Snuggle Safe off the internet for your cat. It will keep your cat warm for up to 12 hours and all it takes is 3 minutes in the microwave. It's $20. Be careful if you leave your cat outside because they often hide under cars to keep warm and that can be very dangerous.

Bring the kitty inside and say, if he asks anything, that you've just rescued it from death which would really be the truth. Hopefully, he won't see the kitty. Our cats only go out for short periods of time in the summer and never in the winter.

A cat can be a very good secret. What if you snuck her in? If she makes noise during the day, lock her, with food and water, in a back room. Otherwise, no matter what, the landlord or his reps. cannot enetr your apt. without giving 24 hours notice first. If it were me, I'd sneak her in otherwise give her to a good home.

I would bring him in.How would the landlord know? Does he check your apartment often?
Just keep the cat inside and don't let him out.

OHhhh, please take the kitty back inside. I can't give you any advice better than what has been given...but if you do have to leave it outside please get the snuggle safe so it won't freeze to death.
I wish you all the luck...I know how hard it is to leave our fur babies outside in the cold.
