Get it done by a professional.
That being said all my piercings - nostril, tragus, navel - other than the tongue - my boyfriend did at home. BUT - we both had been used to working with needles with animal vaccinations and suturing, and I made sure to use a brand new sterile needle that matched the barbel I was putting in, i sterilized the area and the forceps with betadine (what doctors and vets use to wash - notjust a common antiseptic), and used surgeons gloves - and took extreme care - my navel piercing actually healed better than the others I know that got it done in a studio and I do attribute that to the cleanliness where there wasn't people tromping in and out of the area all day long. But i certainly would not recommend that anyone else do that.

my step-mom did she used a needel and thread. and it came out fine i guess....spend the $40 dollars and get it professionally pierced. you donno where that needle been if u do it your self. not matter how much you "sterilize" it. besides it wont look as good if u do it yourself rather than a professional piercer. at the piercing parlor they have the proper needle and itd been sterilized in an autoclave. you pierce yourself with a sewing needle then u try to put a navel ring in there....it might not work because the thickness of the needle and the actual navel ring may differ. and you can get an infection if u keep ****** with it. navel piercings are one of the easiest piercings to get infected...how do I know I went and got mine done professionally and it STILL got infected.

LOL, yes, I did my own- but I have pro- peircing gear. It healed fine. I've hd it for a least 5 years, no problems.
I would reccomend having someone who knows what they are doing though, as placement is important.
The link below has tons of wonderfull belly jewelry

No, but I had a friend that did...she used a safety pin. It got horribly infected and turned all purple...gross. Please don't do it...go have it done professionally, unless you are a professional yourself.
