I see your point; there is no avatar costume suitable for mourning.

Is this a wind-up, you wicked b.i.t.c.h.? If it is, this is in very poor taste. If it isn't its probably a good idea if you don't go as anyone as selfish as you shouldn't be allowed near the last resting place of a human being. I have lost a cousin, a friend and a friend's mum and I was never expecting a 'good time' at any of the funerals. You cry, you smile but you remember the person and feel good that so many people attend the funeral. I hope you catch something when you try on the clothes or better yet, I hope you get caught shop lifting and you get beaten up while in a grimy holding cell someplace.

First st up, why isn't the funeral being held until next Friday.? That's a long time away. Funerals are usually held within three days.
In any case you need to make time for her funeral and quit being so selfish. You can go shopping after the funeral. Walmart is open all night.

Okay, next time to make it more believable, don't invent a funeral almost an entire week ahead of now. IF your grandmother's funeral were next Friday, then I'd have to say congratulations. Because your grandmother would still be alive.

Wind up merchant! Remember what happens when you cry Wolf once too often.
If however, you are genuine in what you are saying, then I feel sorry for you. It could be that you are really scared of funerals and this is your way of side stepping the issue.
If you feel that you cannot go, well then speak to your Folks and explain though you are not going to attend your Grandmother's funeral that you will in your own way pay the respect that is due to your late Grandmother.

I'm surprised that so many people don't seem to think your question is serious. I'm like you, hate funerals, christenings and weddings. Fortunately I have a brother who loves attending things like that and now I don't live close to the rest of the family, so I just don't go: my brother does.
One thing I don't like about funerals is that you get family members there who have never had a good word to say about the person all their life, but just go to the funeral to exchange family gossip.
Now I can think of a really awful way to get out of attending the funeral. Firstly just say you're not going. You could try to make an excuse like you have some really urgent shopping to do. If it's to buy a present for your parents that you'd be planning for months and that day was your last chance you might eventually be forgiven. Or you could have an appointment for a medical test: say you had a lump that you didn't want to talk about. You'll probably get sympathy here. The other way is, when pressed, to reveal that your grandmother abused you when you were younger and you couldn't stand to go to her funeral and hear people say nice things about her when you knew what she was really like. Tears here will help. You may or may not be believed, but if you stick to your guns it will be swept under the carpet.
Don't let your family control your life. If you don't want to go to the funeral then don't go.

Are you kidding me? Even if your grandmother was the coldest, most cruel woman on the face of the earth, you still have to go. Funerals are for the living, not the dead. Go shopping another day, selfish girl.

If you tell people you've got a fever you can stay home, but then don't go out where someone might see you.
Tell people you want to remember her as she was when she was alive.
I don't like weddings, funerals etc. either. There were some raised eyebrows at first but now everyone accepts it.
