I'd like a real name that suits this type of dog, not something made up, although all suggestions gratefully recieved - thank you!

Doobie.
I hope you will name him Doobie, because my dog just died 7 months ago. He was a male golden cocker spaniel, just like yours. Tell me if you name him Doobie.

I think you should wait a while before naming him. We waited until we named both of our cockers (one female, one male) and just tried out some names until we felt we had the right ones. Rusty would be quite a good one as it implies the golden colour?

Most important thing is they answer to it so something short when they are off the lead and you need them to come to you and kind of gutteral so it carries over other distractions but lucky you to have a pet and companion

I personally love the name Beauregard, I met a wonderful Great Dane named that and it described him perfectly. Also did you know that if you name your pets with human names, you regard them as your equal as companions instead of just a pet?
