me. but not for any god. For me. Though every major spiritual leader from ever major religion has recomended fasting. I saw one guy try to say that he doesn't have to because his Son of God says he doesn't have to. Well, you Son of God DID tell you that fasting is a good way to enhance your relationship with God.

Personally, I'm fasting to get closer to God. Noone's God is the "right" God. They are the same God. Allah simply means God in Arabic. The God of Abraham. Same God. Extra prophet. Vishnu is the same God. He teaches the same concepts as the Christian God. Different cultures see things in different ways, so the mythos surrounding their religious dogma is always different, but the concepts are more or less the same. Everyone that truly worships, is worshipping God. Jesus said that the only way to the Father was through Him. His actions made it possible to connect to God more intimately. By showing us not to be afraid of anything...even death. The hindus had a prophecy that said that Vishnu would show up as a young man from the far west that would come to teach the teachers and learn from them as well. This was a couple thousand years before Jesus. Right around 20-something AD, the hindu stories talk of how Vishnu appeared in boy form (as Krsna) and took a Guru and taught the Gurus. After about 8 years of study, he returned to the far west (the middle east) to teach the people. Interesting, huh?

When studying religion, always study all of them with an open mind. Then you can see the wisdom that crosses the boundaries of religious dogma. Then you can see the face of God.

I fast three or four times a month. Most Christians look at me funny when I mention that I fast. The way they look at me, you would think it wasn't in the Bible!
