I noticed my daughter scratching her head tonight and decided to check it and what do you know,i found eggs..Her and her sister had it back in July and it took me about 3 weeks to get rid of it.After that i would try to check there hair every week.I have tried alot of stuff and none of it worked.I cleaned every inch of my house, washed everything for those 3 weeks in hot water.I tried all kind of shampoos and everything.Right now i am sooo stressed out that they got it again that i am really thinking about home schooling them and not letting them play with anyone..Thats how sick of this i am.....Well if you are wondering how i did get rid of it the last time was just by combing and picking combing and picking...This is so tiring....What should i do to prevent them from getting it again...Do i have to move away? Take them out of school? WHAT???

Every nite rinse their hair in vinegar & water. When you fix their hair for school spray it with hairspray. The headlice can't hold on to the hair when it has hairspray on it. I know this is very frustrating I've been thru it as well. Good Luck.

My daughter gets a note home every WEEK at school that it is in her class. And she hasn't got it since she was three [knock on wood, cross my fingers etc etc] -- she's 9 now. We only was her hair every 3 days, keep it quite short and don't use "special" shampoos - the salon ones seem to make them more magnet like. Never share a hat, a toque, a pillow, a blanket.... nothing. Kids bring their own sleeping bag and pillow for sleepovers. Don't let her go over to her friends for a sleepover without the same rules. NEVER SHARE A BRUSH [thats how my whole FAMILY got it!!!!]

IF she does get it, make sure you buy the spray too for all her toys and blankets and leave them in the garbage bag for 24 hours or whatever the can says. Otherwise, like fleas, the eggs can still lie dormant for short periods [its not an urban myth].

Nutrigina [sorry for the bad spelling] clarifying shampoo once a week also is good to make sure there isn't residue from conditioners, etc left in her hair. They seem to like that too.

One family I know went to the extreme - they all shaved their heads. You don't have to go that far, but for the next while maybe shorter hair would help.

Make sure the kids at school aren't using a "reading pillow" - one girl in my daughters class got lice that way too -- they all lie on the same pillow and read!!

In the end after the got it twice in 2 months [my girls were 1 and 3 both with thick hair] -- I got it too again! - we did the shampoo, pick and comb, 24 hours with a head of vaseline while we washed everything, bagged up the toys with the spray, vacuumed, put combs and brushes in hot water. And then followed the rules above :P

Good luck. Lice is gross.

Sorry about your luck, this must be awful for you. There are sprays for the bedding and clothing. Special shampooes of course for their hair, wash everything hot like you did before and bag up all stuffed animals for quite a while. Next you need to call the schoool and make the nurse check all of the childrens hair so you can get rid of this pesky problem once and for all.

I am sorry but it will be a constant battle, as soon as your child is clear she will get re-infected by a friend.

The only thing you can do is accept that they are always around and use a lice comb at least weekly..if you can at least keep up this ritual you can help to stop the breeding cycle...carry on even when clear...

I gave up using chemicals lotion and potions and now resort to the biggest and cheapest bottle of hair conditioner and a good metal lice comb.

Every Sunday its hair scrake time...takes quarter of an hour...and
we have clear heads.

I really think that we need to have a national lice clearing day...because until all parents take action these beasties will be with us for a long time..I really am surprised that there are many parents who will not put the time in to keep our childrens hair healthy.

Get Olive Oil and put it in her hair. Saturate all her hair with it. then let it set for an at least an hour. My daughter had it about 3 times in 6 months . That's how we finally got rid of it. The olive oil smoother's the lice and eggs. It will also make her hair soft. It takes several washings to get it washed out but it helps. Good luck.

i fought them for 3 years with my daughter. i tried everything including some really dispicable home remidies. i found "not nice to lice" at walgreens. its expensive, but i used it on everyone in the house and then retreated again with it 2 weeks later and no one has had a problem with them since. that was about 7 years ago. as far as homes chooling, if i had a school aged child in this day and time they would be home schooled. the public shool system is just a babysitter for delinquents. the good kids get overlooked for the most part.

i have had the same problem, my boys had lice 3 times in less than 8 months, i have dealt with this many times in daycare settings. you seem to be doing the right things the only thing that i did differnt was to wash my childrens hair in plain listerene and then followed up with baby shampoo this was 24 hours after the regular lice shampoo. i used the equate brand of lice shampoo from walmart the rid and other name brands just seemed to feed the lice. i have also used hair spray on them daily and that seems to keep them off they don't stick to the hair. my boys have not had lice now for over a year.

I will tell you that my niece used to get this a lot and pass it on to me. Here I am nearly 30 and she was giving it to me. She had it really really bad. I found the easiest way to get it out of her hair was to apply conditioner to her dry hair. Lice need dry hair to stick to and when you apply the conditioner it makes it easy to comb them out. I keep an old lice comb for when it happens again. Just put tons of conditioner on her hair and comb until nothing comes out on the comb. It's safer than using those lice shampoos all the time. Her mom finally took her to the doc for it and they gave her something to put on her hair that kept lice away for up to 12 months. it worked too, but i cant remember what it is. you have to have a prescription for it. it might be a good idea for you if you keep getting it. to get them out of clothes or pillows put everything in the dryer for about an hour on high heat

Use tea tree oil on her hair. It changes the shaft and the buggies can't stay on there. Behind the ears and on the nape of the neck is where they like to hide, so pay close attention there. If she's got long, thick hair, you may want to consider cutting it short for the time being.

I had the same problem for an entire summer with my step daughter. Everytime we thought that they were gone they came back she was like a magnet for lice. We gave up on the over the counter stuff and bought Spectricide for bugs and diluted it with water within a week or two no more bugs and no more hassle. You might want to try that.
