Of course if the plane was going from one country to the other? But still in the air as the baby is born.
Thanks.

The baby may have several options, depending on the citizenship laws of the countries involved:
- citizenship of the mother
- citizenship of the father
- citizenship of the airline carrier
- citizenship of the country where the plane landed
- citizenship of the country over which the plane was flying when the birth occured.

Or a combination thereof.

All of that since some countries recongnize parental lineage (ius sanguinis, follows the blood-lines), and some countries recognize the place of birth (ius soli), while others recognize both, and allow the parents to chose, or the child to chose when reaching adulthood.

Some countries recognize multiple citizenship, while others only allow one, and require a person to give up any other citizenships.

So the short answerL it depends on the specifics of the situation, and the laws of those countries.

In practice, the baby is given the nationality of the parents. This is one of the reasons why airlines do not permit travel after 32 weeks - 28 in some cases and only then with a Doctors letter saying that the pregnancy is normal.

It would recieve the citizenship of the mother and the country the a/c landed in. Dual citizenship until the age of 18 then they would have to elect one.

The same as parents. And if parents have different citizenship, then the child will be citizen of his/hers Mother's country.

The citizenship is based on the plane. For example a canadian plane is proprty of canada and therefore the child would be a citizen of canada and whatever were its parents.
