i'm not the one who lets their damn dog run loose to go bang all the other dogs that are where they are supposed to be, in their own yard. i keep my dog here in my yard and just because we wanted to wait till after her first heat because we heard it was better for her doesnt make me a bad pet owner. and if she is only a few hours pregnant, that is a lot better than bringing more puppies into the world that might not find good homes, and i cant take care of them all.

and giving the puppies away was what i planned when i found out my dog was pregnant right after i got her. turns out they got ringworm and now i still have 3 of them and had to spend money on medicine for ALL 8 of them, over $200 for all of that. now do you understand why i cant go thru this again?

Good for you for asking about this before a bunch of puppies end up in your yard again. You certainly can have her spayed while pregnant, and the sooner the better. Almost any vet would rather do a spay of a pregnant ***** than have to think about what would happen to a bunch of unplanned puppies.
Unfortunately, many times these sorts of accidents happen to responsable owners who do not intend to have puppies and who have responsable plans for their pets. I think it's sad that all these people attacked you, and yet, they would be the first ones to say there are too many pets in the world and that no one should breed dogs. Sheesh, people, make up your minds!!!
I have been breeding purebred dogs my entire life. My line of dogs has been passed down through several generations, so that I am the third generation breeder of such dogs. I had my first accidental breeding this year, and of course the daddy dog was a very sneaky fellow much like the one you described - and not my dog either! He actually broke through my 6 foot fence to get to my girl. Anyway, even when you are being super-careful these things can happen and the only thing to do is to be responsable about it. I'm not sure yet if my dog is pregnant, but if she is, I will most likely have to have her spayed, and sacrifice many, many years of a very selective and dedicated breeding program to avoid the birth of these unplanned puppies.
Abortion in any situation is not a decision to be made lightly - but I am a firm believer that pregnancy should be a decision, not an accident, and if potential suffering can be avoided with abortion, then it is a viable option.
Enough of my rant. Good luck with your dog, and your previous puppies!

WOW, did you ever get slammed on this question. I will probably get it also.
You CAN take her to the vet and have her spayed. It is much easier for the vet and the dog if she is in the very first days of her pregnancy. And you can bet she is pregnant, especially due to the fact you did not want her to become pregnant.
Many people are under the misconception that they need to wait for the dog to go through a heat cycle. NOT TRUE, it can be done as early as 3 months.
If she is within 24 to 48 hours (I believe, double check with your vet) of being bred, there is a NO MATE shot that the vet can give her, but the shot also has some nasty side affects that don't show up until later. It will also keep her in heat (it basically starts her heat all over again) so it will last a full 21 more days..
Most people do not realize when they allow their males to free roam the country, they are a total nuisance to other pet owners that keep their dogs in a fenced yard. I guess they figure it is better if they poop in some one else's yard and not their own.
The well-meaning critics obviously have not take into consideration the expense required to raise a litter of puppies.
As for letting the mom have the puppies and selling them, it is not that simple, as I am sure you have found out now, by just trying to give your previous litter away.
As for all the people screaming that you are killing all those poor precious puppies, I wonder if it ever crossed their little minds what happens to all those little pets that are put in the humane society?????
I have a 13 month old puppy that just went through her 1st heat, I had no problem keeping my standing stud away from her.....one of the neighbor hood bums climbed my chain link fence and bred her (all in less than 1 hour) so I had to opt to use the NO MATE shot on her. It was a choice of her dying trying to give birth or possible damage later from the shot.
I wish you the best of luck, you have a difficult decision.
No one here pays your vet bills for you, and no one here will be staying up all night with sick puppies. DO THE BEST YOU CAN.
I will give a recommendation, call your vet, advise him she has been bred. Ask if he can/will spay her. No one here can tell you what the vet will say. But I see no reason for putting more puppies on the streets that run the possibility of abuse or not being cared for by a loving family that wants them.
NOTE: kldr you are incorrect about the time limit on the shot, I am not sure on the 24 or 48 hours, but I know for a fact it is NOT 2 weeks.

Take her to the vet and have her spayed.
It can be done if she is pregnant, and better to do it now, in the early stages than wait. The cost may be higher than if she wasnt pregnant, but will save you in the long run.
As for the age for de-sexing, this whole site is full of "discussions" on the correct age. Here in Australia early de-sexing is accepted by the majority of the vet fraternity. There are others who suggest waiting a bit later, at about 4-5 months.
Unfortunately there are still those (not vets ) who say to let them have their first heat. And others(also not vets) who say, let her have a litter first or she wont be fulfulled! That is again humanising the dog. Dogs work on hormones, not feelings.

YES, you can get your dog spayed while pregnant. Vets do this ALL the time. It will however cost you a little bit more as things are more swollen and more engorged so usually is a tad more difficult to do the surgery. I think it is MUCH more ethical for you NOT to bring more unwanted puppies into this world and contributing to the pet overpopulation, then to allow her to have them. Get her spayed, pregnant or not.

1st off, i don't support abortion. not for humans, and definately not for dogs. if that dog is not about to have dogs from in-breeding, let her be. just have the pups and go through the process again if that's what is called for. to get your money back why don't you sell the puppies, i don't know if they are pure-breed or whatever, but people will spend money on cute pups, and a little tip, you can sell female puppies for more than you can sell male ones. just enjoy. try not to think of it as a hassle, it will be over before you know it. and just so you know, all that about waiting until the first heat before getting your dog fixed, yeah, that's a myth, you can get them fixed at 6months old. Congrats on your new arrivals!!

Yes,you can get her fixed, even if she's pregnant. You need to do it soon, because the bigger the pups get,the harder it is on the dog.And for all of you who are wondering,no,it's not cruel. The puppies are anesthetized along with the mom,and when her uterus is removed they quickly die of suffocation. They don't feel anything because they are already unconscious;and yes,it is better than letting another unwanted litter being born.SPAY AWAY!

My friend took her dog to be spayed and the vet told her their were puppies in there and asked her if she wanted to abort & spay or keep the puppies.
This is why I have a boy dog!

Yes, you can spay her while she is pregnant. I'd do it ASAP if I were you so that there is less risk to your husband's dog. And next time spay at 6 months of age before the first heat.

I'd say for your own piece of mind, you just need to let her have
the puppies, and find them homes. And then take the responsible
actions to make sure this don't happen again. Your conscience
will rest easier if you do whats right. hope this helps.
