Uh, some people have coffee all the time- before the meal, during the meal and after the meal. I suppose its a hang over from when they used to drink coffee with cigarettes in restraunts

Coffee is a strong flavored drink, and can interfere with the flavors of the meal. Coffee is a stimulant, and it is also an irritant, and causes people to have to pee. That might have something to do with it also.
Many people drink coffee with their meals, including my husband.
People like to relax and take their time drinking the hot coffee, and to chat after the meal.
Hope this helped.

Funny you should ask that. I'm cooking dinner tomorrow for my boyfriend. He LOVES coffee. I thought about serving coffee before or with the meal, then decided against it.

Coffee beans are very oily and they leave a residue on the tongue which will interfere with the taste of foods.

I'm making a Bleu Cheese and Walnut Salad with a Pomegranate Vinaigrette, and Five Cheese Tortellini with a Cheesy Shrimp Alfredo Sauce.

This will be a very flavorful meal. I don't want anything to interfere with it.
